My friend and I are looking for a box so we can get Breggey (16.3 ID) out and about - I posted earlier in the week about which way is best for the horse travelling.

We measured her from chest to end of bum and she comes in at 8 foot 3 - she does have a long back! It seems that loads of boxes only have a length from breast bar to end of 7 foot which means obviously no good to us. Has anyone else found this with their horses and can anyone recommend a good make of up to 3.5t lorry we could check out please? We saw a VW Movano which can be fitted to be 9 foot length but that gets rid of the little bit of storage we have.

We thought this would be easy but evidently not!! Be grateful for any words of wisdom please :)

Gosh 8ft 3 sounds long. What size rug is she? I bought a 3.5t a few years back, never really thought about length lol, got it home and then thought yikes!! My mare was in a 6' 6 rug and thankfully she fit absolutely fine. I actually sold it to a guy with a bigger horse and he had no issues either. I cant remember for sure but I think mine was 7ft stall length.

She's a 6 foot 9 rug - my friend measured her though and she came out 8 foot 3 - this was by standing her against a wall, chalking on the wall where her chest is then going around to back end and doing the same and measuring the length. We're going to check it again on the weekend as think something not quite right!

We had our 3.5 ton adapted to drop the front panel to give my horse more room for his neck and chest and he ate his hay over the living area if you left him in the wagon, so we tied him outside with a net

That sounds very long. I've never measured my 17hh long backed horse but he wears a 7' rug to give you an idea and he fits very nicely on an IW510 trailer which has a maximum stall length (breast bar to breaching bar) of 2.04m or 6'9". He also fitted nicely on an Equitrek Space Trekka L. It has an overall length of 9'8" but that includes the head space too. I can't find the stall dimensions sorry - I would imagine the head space is at least 2'6" though, leaving about 7' of body space. I would imagine a lot of 3.5T lorries will have similar dimensions.

Thank you very much everyone for all your help. I've never had to think about the length of a horse in a lorry before so you'll have to excuse the post-50 frazzled, overheated, sleep deprived brain!!

I had my 3.5 Renault built for a very big horse and gave it 8'9" length. To be fair, now I carry a lil' ol' 15.2 I am glad it is no longer as she has a load of unused space.

I think you need to remeasure, especially if Breggy fits in a 6'9 rug.

Yes, at 8'3 your horse is exceptionally long :D (and I think you're abusing her by squeezing her into 6'9 rugs :p)

I know, I know - feeling really daft for sure now. Very pleased to have brightened people's days ..... can go to sleep knowing today has been a good day lol
