Hello all!

I have a crazy idea (which I'm quite prepared to renounce but want to check first) to take my horse into London on the Jubilee as I hope many roads will be car free and so easier to ride around plus it sounds like a fantastic day out :) I can't seem to find whether the horses are allowed into Central London, does anyone know? Any ideas are much appreciated :) If there are any other similar lunatics to me I'd be much too happy to be joined :) My horse is always easy to control and never kicks or does anything so I think he should be safe in the crowd.
Pimms for everyone of course!!!

Horses are often in Central London (eg Ross Nye's lot near Hyde Park). However, Central London is going to be heaving for the Jubilee.

Many excellent hacking horses struggle with Central London when they first arrive - on a normal day. It's not a typical environment and most people don't understand they need to get out of the way if you're having problems -I speak from experience having sat on a horse that leapt onto the pavement outside Buck Palace when the crowds were queueing to get in. Instead they stop, like rabbits in the headlights.

The police, military and Mews horses stabled in London all undergo spookbusting training, simulating various scenarios.

If you really want to ride around London when it's quiet, I'd suggest you go for an early morning hack, around 6am.

if it's a public road you can ride on it. Not sure I'd brave it though as the buses etc will still be running and some of the corners are so tight that I doubt a bus would pass you safely in some places :o

Personally I wouldn't as I find the people I meet hacking on Hackney marsh can't cope with horses and have no idea how to act around them (e.g. running up to them screaming and throwing arms around their necks is not uncommon!) so I dread to think what central London would be like.

brilliant, that's even a crazier idea :) there was a man who took a pony on a train, so underground is a logical step forward!

I'm not sure about the jubilee but in general there are no restrictions on riding horses on the roads in central london. I used to keep a horse in bermondsey in the 1980's and rode down old Kent road, around elephant and castle all the way to the church they used to celebrate horsemans Sunday in off park lane! You should check the highest code or road traffic acts to see if horses can access roads closed to motor vehicles i guess.
