I read the intresting post below re twenty sarcoids my boy has a few tiny ones and one that sprung from nowere and grew quite large and hes getting liverpool treatment in a few weeks over five days i think it is ,is it painful for horse ?Do they need sedating ? Twitched , etc ... any advice on what to expect ?
Thanks a lot

From my recent experience, the treatment with Liverpool cream can be painful, especially once the sarcoids start to react to it. We were warned that sedation may be required, and I understand that it depends on the location of the lesions as to how much discomfort the horse feels. My boy has 4 small-ish ones - 2 on his face (one on his muzzle, which became very sore), and 2 on his chest. He finished his initial treatment last Wednesday, and was sore and sad for the 10 days it was being applied, but behaved impeccably and coped without needing sedation or twitching, bless him. We gave him bute too, which seemed to make him much more comfortable. Best of luck with it all, as I understand it Prof K is the sarcoid expert, so your horse will be in the best possible hands!

Yes it must. Mine has one inside his back leg that was treated this way by previous owner. The treatment didn't work and he was very very unhappy about me touching the area for months. It's only a very small one and it's going very slowly with a herbal / homeopathic course.
I think it didn't work because of where it was as I've heard very good reports otherwise.

I think it must be uncomfortable for them hence the need for bute. However, if it is applied correctly by the vet [and from what i have heard they all dont take the care they should] there should be no adverse reactions for the majority of cases, but as you can see on the forum some have bad experiences.

My horse had an iffy sore lump on the side of his face, right where part of the bridle came. Vets advised that if it LOOKS like a sarcoid, treat it as if it IS one. Liverpool cream applied every 4 days and 4 visits were enough. Sunny never ever reacted in the slightest. Hardly seemed to care. No sedation, no bute, no anything except a polo after each application for being such a good boy! After the 4th application of the cream, I stitched a little piece of sheepskin round the part of the bridle where it would have rubbed the (?) sarcoid and we never looked back. Disappeared some weeks later and has never come back.

my boy had one on his bum a few years back , the vet couldn't get hold of me when he went to apply it so just went in to the field and put it on him , no problems as they did this for each time after that it had to be applied, and I know if it had hurt him they would not have got near him after the first time.
