Is it the right time of year for shedding of coats? Our spin one has always been smooth-coated and lacked any form of 'furnishings' that she should have had, but her mum was very smooth and tbh, she's easy to keep clean!

However, the small fan she did have has disappeared and her front paws seem to have lost any guard hairs they did have. Don't get me wrong, she still has hair, she's not going bald, but it's a bit odd as her toes are now distinguishable whereas they weren't before....

I've had different spitzes for about 23 years now and I still can't predict when they will decide that it is time to shed their winter coat/summer coat for next season's coat. Some years it has felt as if the thermometer only needed to be on plus temperatures for a day or two, for them to decide that summer is here and start shedding, other years they've hung on to their winter coats for so long, that I begin to think that they've decided to keep it over the next winter, and the same goes for shedding their summer coat, some years they hang on to it until November, other years they seem to prepare themselves already in September for spending their winter in Siberia...

So I can only say that if it seems to be a normal shedding, just happening in an unusual month of the year, then maybe that is all there is to it. But if it doesn't seem like a normal shedding, then to be on the safe side, maybe it is time for a veterinarian check, to see if she needs a supplement to her diet, and to rule out that it isn't caused by something like Demodex canis, ringworm, bacteria etc.
