well done some flatwork in field she was actually quite good aonly abit of headshaking in canter, popped a few jumps at end but she stopped at both of the jumps one was a croos about 2ft other was straight bar with pole on slant at 2ft6 now she has jumped cross before and can easily jump alot bigger is she just taking the piss out of me. Third time of jumping them she flew great takeoff point etc.

Sounds like she might be, but do you have any more info? How old is she? Is she schooled in jumping? How long have you had her? There is a possibility she might be in pain somewhere but it is difficult to say without more info, i.e. when did you last check back, saddle, teeth? Do you have any problems with anything else, e.g. schooling or hacking? Was this a one off or a regular problem?

well she will be 8 this year has done loads of jumping mainly showjumping sometimes she is brilliant and other days i get lots of stops shes a very got to look at everything horse, had her since she was 6months old i was first to sit on her but went somewhere else to be brought on as she was bit of a handful, he said she will go along way but im not a good enough rider etc, teeth arent due yet. hasnt schooled for while until today and was very good in walk trot very bouncy in canter seemed to settle after i got off her back for bit to let her stretch hacking she is slow until journey home when she speeds up, does like to spook at invisible things though.

Have you had your saddle and back checked? Also I can't recommend hunting enough for your horse if back etc all fine. It should completely revive her interest in jumping and should also make her alot bolder in her jumping.

if im honest never had back checked that i remember, saddle has never been fitted to her cant afford to have to change it, she has a gel pad under. as for the hunting i would love to not sure how she would react though!! hates people cantering up behind her or coming close does buck

Well, if there is nothing physically wrong, maybe she needs a bit more schooling to develop her muscles before she starts jumping again? If she does it every so often maybe she is just easily distracted and inconsistent (could be related to her season coming on?)

she is in season at mo, daft question but how long do they last? i might get her back checked as its either she is twisted or me, do you know any round this area(somerset) that are good but not expensive?

I don't think she is taking the piss at all.

She is in season (is it the first season of the year?)
You have never had her saddle fitted to her
She has never had her back checked especially re above point
She hasn't been schooled much recently

I think if you work on each point (obvious nothing you can do about her being in season) you may find her more obilging (sp). Sorry don't know anyone in your area re her back, maybe phone your vet and ask, or a local riding club etc.

well i will get her back checked soon as poss, do they check saddle as well?? when i say schooled i mean flatwork she has been doing jumping about once a week at competitions.

ok what is proper name for back person trying to google it? oh and its her first season i think seems to be lasting for ages.

thanks for all your help guys, my bday soon so will spend my money on horsey stuff either lessons or back etc.

It depends, physio, chiropractor, bowen therapist etc.

I would try and get recommendations from people in your area. That way you know you are spending your money wisely and not wasting it!

Dont mean to seem rude at all, but you've said u do alot of jumping with her but not done much flat work recently, what do you do with her in between competions? as if all the basis of her work load is jumping then she may have gone a bit stayle nd be fed up of it?

If all of those fail I would keep schooling and jumping separate.

My old pony would warm up and jump happily but if I was to do say half hour schooling then jump at the end she would refuse. I think she thought bugger this I have done my work and im not doing any more.

Also if she hasn’t done much schooling she is using muscles she won’t have and she could be aching. Bring her on gently and try not to do too much of a variety of work on each session until she is ready.

well she has done mostly hacking inbetween competitions, just due to field being out of use due to weather not alot of flatwork or jumping in field. she had worked well so only popped a couple of jumps done them 3 times last time done them really nicely so called it a day there.

I'm in Somerset, the back person we use at our yard is June Gregory (01984 656179).

She took a look at my boy when I got him, couldn't find anything to treat so gave me a discount. Always think it's a good sign when they're happy to say 'nothing wrong at all'.
