Its the last time I try to be nice!!
We had another foot of snow last night so we ventured out this morning to sort the Destroyer looking like yetis. Thank god for 4 wheel drive!
After sorting Hovis out and battling cross country we went to help the riding school out where Sid is liveried, get out to their ponies who are in fileds all around the village.
Hubby went with one of the owners to carrot, hay and give fresh water to all the fields and check on Sid and his mates in their field. Have to add here for all those worried about your ponies in this weather - Sid lives out 24/7, is a poffy Hanovarian, has 18 inches of snow in the field and was toasty warm and happy as larry!

Meanwhile I stayed behind and filled 25 haynets.......
I have had an enormous reaction to the hay. :(
My eyes are now all swollen and red, I have big white blister like things all over my face, my mouth looks like Lesley Ash (post botox disaster), my neck is covered in lumps and I'm wheezing like I smoke 50 a day.

Remind me not to be so helpful in the future. I appear to be allergic to it.....
 
That sounds like an extreme reaction - have you taken antihistamines (Piriton)?

It was good of you to help out though - I hate filling haynets
 
Poor you! I know how you feel because a)I am also allergic to hay and b)I am seriously considering making a new years resolution to stop helping people as all it seems to do is cause me grief!

Horses, who'd have 'em? :p
 
That does sound quite extreme! :eek: Have you never reacted before? Although I know you can suddenly develop allergies (my OH suddenly became allergic to apples at the age of 52!), maybe there was something else in the hay, in the barn??

Thanks for the encouragement about living out too - I am concerned about poor, spoilt Hugo who should be with me (to now live out 24/7) a week on Saturday. Maybe the weather will have changed for the better a little by then!?
 
Phew! It's all starting to subside - I look slightly less like Jordon with a trout pout so much relief all round!
I do react a little bit in summer on my arms etc if I'm doing haynets in a T-shirt but never like this. But then I've never stood and filled 25 haynets in one go!
Note to self, won't be doing that again..........
 
That sounds nasty and more than a little unfortunate if you have horses! Glad to hear that its starting to go down. I'd maybe mention it to the doctors and get an allergy test to see if it was the hay or something in that caused your reaction. Without wishing to be alarmist you might need to start carrying something like an epipen as you don't want to get caught out.

I'm assuming you mean allergic to the hay and not to the being helpful... :D

But seriously folks, I hope it settles down quickly and that your Lesley Ash days are left far behind you :D.

Do be careful in future. Make sure that at the very least you carry Piriton with you all the time.
One advantage to feeding haylage this year, that I have noticed is the lack of allergic reaction.

Sorry to hear that - I wonder what Hovis will make of the situation ;)

If it makes you feel any better I had a similar reaction to flowers my OH bought for valentines day LOL :o
 
I hope you get huge thank you from all of those people you helped out today! Its not nice to be taken for granted!
