I have two horses at different yards. One is at DIY livery near my house, the other is at a full livery yard about 15 minutes away where I work. I have wanted to swap them for awhile for various reasons. I first decided to do it at the beginning of last month. Asked yard manager where I work if she'd mind swapping them in her lorry, she said that was fine (I could hack them in theory as it's not too far but one of them is a bit silly on roads and you have to go along some quite busy roads and over a motorway to get there so not really very safe).
Firstly it snowed lots, so wasn't really safe to drive so we put it off.
Then one of the horses on the full livery yard got ringworm, so didn't want to risk moving anyone in case it spread (which fortunately it didn't).
Then yard manager went on holiday so couldn't do it then.
I was having second thoughts by this time (again for various reasons!), but when yard manager came back I decided yes I would definately swap them. We had to wait a bit longer until the one mare was completely free of ringworm just to be safe, then set a date for this friday.
So then at the end of last week my younger horse went lame! Obviously I didn't want to move him if injured. But fortunately it only seemed minor as he is fine again now. So we were going to swap them today. I got my old boy all ready to go, and then the lorry wouldn't start! The battery was dead. Yard manager says she'll try and fix it tonight so hopefully we can go tomorrow.
Is someone trying to tell me that I shouldn't swap my horses?!
From the horses point of view it would be better for them to swap, and also for mine (in most ways). If we can't do it tomorrow maybe I shoudl just give up! There is more to it than this but still. Sigh.
Anyone else been unlucky lately?
