Hi! Please can you watch my very short youtube video and tell me if this bit looks too small? I usually take ages deliberating over which size of horse item i should buy but the staff were kind of hurrying me.
I'll add some photos too

Thank you x

Agree with Alainax you need a bit more space - but not much more. A 145mm is going to be a too big I would think. A 135 might also be - its difficult to tell the size of the horse's lips when they not pressed in by the bit. You might have to change make to get one half way between the two.

If you buy from somewhere like the Bit Bank you can have a free 30 day trial with a new bit and if it doesn't fit send it back.

Thanks for replying. I'll have a look online and see if there's other sizes available online. I watched a few youtube videos showing how to measure bit size using wire, using string, using a stick of wood - but I don't think I'd trust my own ability to get it right!

The easiest way to do it is to find a bit which does fit and measure it. You're looking for the distance between the two sides of the bit - so on that pelham between one cheek shank and the other. But you need to also bear in mind that like women's clothing - or horse rugs - different makes come up slightly different sizes regardless of what it says on the label. Also that different types of bits can need more space or less. (and some makes measure from outer edge to outer edge just to be annoying!)

It is something to learn over time but it might be worth asking your instructor to show you how to correctly fit and check a bit?
