Is the hoof smart? Dr Debra Taylor Auburn University.

Ok, I've watched the video and have come back to this thread and I'm surprised that no-one else has commented on it considering how fundamental to soundness, hoof health is. I know it's long (53 mins) but I found it very interesting and I recommend that everyone who owns a horse with hooves (:p) watches it. :)

I'm also wondering if I can improve my mare's hooves more than they have already. I'd really love to sort out a pea shingle area for them, even if it's just a small patch that I lead them over regularly.

I watched this a while ago and then spent a few days obsessing over it (and despairing over all the things I really wish I could do to improve my horses management but can't cos I'm on a livery yard who aren't very open to modifying what's already there). Utterly fascinating. Also got me thinking about the little things that maybe aren't being looked for / at on imaging that could be more significant than currently realised

I think it is well worth watching, there are some great practical nuggets in there as well as thought provoking stuff re horse mangement.

It must be so rewarding for Pete Ramey and Mr. Bowker to have their work recognised by a veterinary college at long last.
The technology was amazing.

I loved her comment about BF people "knowing" and science now having to catch up. Quite chuffed to see my trimmers name on one of the research papers quoted.
