Is the snow driving anyone else insane??.

It was finally melting and now we've had a fresh dumping arrgh!

Havn't ridden for a week, luckily they've still been being turned out but 1 is getting very bolshy as she needs work to stay sane and the other was finally fit to start having lessons and competing before event season starts but now i can't do anything with them!

School is full of snow and although roads are clear, all hacking is accessed by a steep dirt track that is just a sheet of ice from cars going up and down so can't get them out at all.

Plus being a freelance groom/rider (mainly rider) I've had to cancel 90% of my work as can't school them in the snow so I'm skint too (obviously have made allowances for this so can pay bills ect but
still) ugh!

Have tried to keep myself amused but being mainly stuck in the house is killing me
 
I'm now bored of the snow....and I'm skiing for 2 weeks on Saturday. Just when its due to thaw here.

No I'm not expecting any sympathy, but an earlier thaw would be nice.
 
Menage full, lane full, fields full.

Cant ride cos his feet turn into snow/ice balls in seconds...even with hoof oil on them first.

Can't get lorry out.

Insane probably does'nt cover it!!!
 
Yes I really hate it. We have a lot here and it is starting to go slushy. Can't ride and can't get warm. Really hope it thaws this weekend. Can't wait for spring.
 
Getting very grumpy now, managed to get 2 out round the lanes yesterday before the snow damaged visibility. Cant ride today as the mob is getting shod and tomorrow is dentist day so thats even more time off :-(
 
No. I have no snow. Snow would have at least been a cushion on the ground like we had 2 years ago. But no, just frozen mud and muck and a frozen arena. So if its going to be frozen I'd prefer a bit of snow. We have all the annoyances of snow such as frozen taps, bad roads, horses not working ect, all in a crap brown rutty landscape.

Yes I hate it but they have forecast 6 degrees and rain on Sunday so although we will be plunged into mud at least it will thaw and I can ride again and get back on my cycle to work!
 
Yes, getting very hacked off with it. A total wash out last year, mud, then we had floods, now this. I've entered my first ever Trec comp (10/2) and am desperate to do some practice, but can't get out of the yard at all - long drive covered in packed ice. Horses going nutty!
 
it seems to have mostly thawed over night here with the rain we had :)

plus i am very lucky to have an indoor school so everyone has still been able to get on with it to some extent.

it is very annoying though
 
Yep. Can't ride, having to be at yard 3-4 times a day if I want any turnout (despite working full time), having to pick between a hungry, out and grumpy horse or a stabled and bored horse. Never thought I'd say this, but I think I might cry if the promised rain doesn't materialise on Saturday :(
 
Thoroughly fed up with it all now. Horse is bored and bargy. Tried to walk her out but she is jogging everywhere so just too dangerous with this ice.

Rain planned for the weekend ... lets hope it then doesnt turn cold and freeze again :mad:
 
Very fed up with it. Had just started riding post surgery, and need to do more to see if I can go back to work, but now can't do any!! Lorry is being plated on friday, and had wanted to do some painting etc, but with the weather we just can't do any more!
 
Yes can't stand it now, I was getting fed up of rain and was thinking anything but wetness, but the hill to my yard is now undriveable so yard owner has told me not to come today as its too dangerous as I have my little girl with me all the time too :( so am now missing time with my mare. I just want things back to normal now. It was pretty the first day but now it's just affecting too much.

Sorry for the moan but upsets me I can't see horse :(

As EI says, the frozen ground is hellish, the horses are so much happier when they can move with a bit of snow on the ground.

I am not anticipating a thaw anytime soon, although today is warmer than yesterday at -19C (at 8.15am)
 
Absolutely. It's been snowing solidly here since about 8pm last night and on and off every day since last Thursday. I shovelled a load of frozen snow off the yard on Monday in the hope of at least getting the yard clear and Tuesday morning it was back! For the 1st time in 23 years of horse ownership (other than for medical reasons) my horse has stayed in today. He went out this morning and in the 20 minutes it took me to muck out, he never left the gate. When he started pawing at it, I relented! I have a riding club qualifier on Sunday. If it's on, it looks like I'll be riding a horse there who hasn't been ridden for a fortnight!
 
Around here, its lovely snow. Everywhere is coated with the white glistening stuff, while the main roads are clear. Very pretty and the horses white legs are snow white .:D

They're fed up with it though, getting to the grass is making their noses cold.
 
Yes, doing my head in. Want the snow to just do one so that I can turn my horse out in the next couple of days and we can begin his rehab. It was pretty and it was sort of a neat adventure last Friday when it descended on us (although spending five hours at the yard waiting for the vet wasn't fun), but I've had enough now.

My main concern is weight gain as other than doing the horses, I have just sat indoors eating cake and perusing the H & H forum!!!!

Off to put the kettle on, again......
 
Yup - despite not riding over the winter due to arthritis (mine not the horses) I am fed up of clearing it for it to return. Keeping her in as she gets THE biggest snow stilts... so she's out an hour in the morning and an hour at night, she's being sensible and comes in with snow up to her eyes from wuffling through the snow to get some grass.

So far this routine is keeping her sane, I am fed up of having to dig my van out of ice/snow, sliding, skidding and fishtailing all over the place and I live at the bottom of a hill...and yes, I do know how to drive in the stuff (ex professional driver) alas my van is not great.. And don't get me started on about lugging water as the yard taps frozen (has been for 2 weeks....sigh. So yes - I am well and truly fed up of it now.
 
My boy is quite chilled as he is out 24/7 wearing three rugs.
Manege has about 3 inches of snow on but feels quite soft/thawing underneath so I plan to remove the snow tomorrow and let the sunshine do the rest..**fingers crossed**.... :)
 
I had enough now, my sons mare strained her fetlock on slippy road 3 wks ago, she had box rest and restricted turnout and appears ok now but vet had had to be put off once cos yard is so iced up can't do a lameness work up in safe conditions, yo said book it for next thurs, so my poor son not ridden for weeks, and won't gt to ride her till mid feb , cos we off to Florida sat week!!! Come back rain.
