the Dr Cook's bitless bridle that's good, or are there any other bitless bridles that are worth looking into?

Also, does anyone have any experiance of them or other bitless bridles and are they any good?

Have done and they're all either the wrong size or £120 and in America.

Just out of interest, why do you want to try one?

I used to use a bitless bridle on my TB gelding. He used to get very strong and I was finding that he would either take hold of the bit and pull or get very worked up, throwing his head up and shortening his stride, even cantering on the spot. He'd has his teeth and tack checked...in the end I bought a bitless bridle, no idea what make...but it put pressure on the nose and poll (in a similar way to controller halters, crossing under the jaw)

He was still strong but we didn't fight any more...which ultimately meant that if i said STOP, he would! BUT, I'd not have used one if it had been the case that he wasn't a sensible horse...if we were on a bridleway and he'd decided the canter wasn't fast enough, I knew that if someone appeared on the track or a road was coming up fast, he'd stop of his own free will!

I have used an english hackamore on my mare, after trying to stop the headshaking. Tried back teeth saddle specialists to no avail. She loves the hackamore and is so relaxed in it. I got one from the tack shop at 35 quid. I tried her in the indoor school the first time and took it very gently - i used sheepskin to pad the curb chain and noseband, i did find it a little narrow so have shopped around for a bigger one, it seems to be luck as they all say one size! I use a neue schule german hackamore (worlwide bits direct on ebay - amazing got one for £26 and they are listed at £69, just email and ask him for one as they arent always listed) for hacking and xc as this has longer shanks so a bit more stopping power! Its hard work tho as you really have to use yr seat and legs to ride with one, ie it makes me ride properly! Good luck let me know if you get stuck.

I use a Dr Cook Type bridle for driving. Fantastic. My local saddler makes them to measure, I think £35 for biothane and £55 for english leather.
