Another week of hot weather !
I know I mustn't complain but the ground is starting to get rather solid and I am starting to miss all my canter spots out hacking , plus pony is getting sweaty in his fly rug :(

Here comes the hose pipe ban ....

we are on clay soil, the field is cracked im waiting for dolly to fall down one , the grass isn't growing..... Idealy i want it to rain over night and be nice and sunny/ warm in the day ;)

I'm in Lincs too - the amount of rain that came down in 45 mins on Sat was amazing a proper summer storm - perfect to help hay fields bounce back. But friends 6 miles down the road didn't get a drop !!

Summer... just how it used to be YEARS ago! OH mentioned **hushed voice** - 'hosepipe ban' earlier, and I had to cut him off.. not having that said in this household after those who did last year.. and with a wet result  !! ;)

And, my fields are looking dry, but good. Helps keep the lush grass at bay for fatty ponies. Not too worried about the hard either, as neither does massive work.

I'm desperate for rain, the ground is too hard to play polo where we are! Ponies are bored and even though they all wear fly masks they are all getting sore eyes ( apart from my little TB who seems to be immune to the horses flies and midges too!)

As FM said, it's called summer. Currently water levels in local reservoirs are still much higher than this time last year as average rain fall was so much higher over winter and spring. Am in SE and also on clay - no rain for a while but did TREC yesterday and had some great canters. Yes ground is hard, but we just need to adjust our riding accordingly. It used to be like this every summer and I hope it continues!

Can't you take your horse's fly rug off if it's making him sweat and cover him/her in spray unless of course it's a sweet itch issue?

Last year a drought was announced and never stopped raining for a year so don't even think of the word!

I smugly sprayed my main field with weedkiller a fortnight ago. Now the paddock I've got my lot on is yellow and scorched and I'm having to feed them hay but it is too soon to put them back in the main field. Guess who's not so smug any more..... :o
