Looking for a horse for 14yo moving off her 13.2 pony.

Looking for something safe and sensible 9yo +
Must be willing, hack out and be good in traffic
Also must be able to live out and be ok if not ridden for a few days.
looking for something 15.1-15.3hh


Does this sort of horse exist and how much would you expect to pay?
 
They exist, what you will need to pay depends on whether it also needs to be a good PC horse and compete or just for hacking purposes. If just a hack you can find them for £2-3k if more of an allrounder with a record £4-5 k plus, there are usually a few that sound nice on www.nfed.co.uk or the PC site.
 
I'm at the 'keeping an eye on what's out there' stage as daughter is getting rather tall at 13 for her 14h pony, but she HAS to do 1 more year on him as we've not the capital and I know he won't be allowed to be sold to fund a new one (quite a character)
I'd suggest look on NFED as mentioned above as they'll be local to you, and expect to pay anything from £1K upwards depending on age, experience and what you want to do. There are quite a few older horses about which are on the cheaper end of the spectrum but if looking for a 9yo that is sane, sensible and with potential / capable of competing at a high level at all PC/RC disciplines than I'd be expecting to part with about 4K or more unless I was very lucky.
 
Yeah thats pretty much the price i thought.

The biggest issue is finding something that will live out, in a mixed herd and is the same horse if not ridden (just checked on for 2/3 days)

Finding that most horses of the type we are looking for are not really suitable for that
 
The not being ridden for a few days is hard to prove unless owners actually do this, it is something I routinely do with anything on my yard, especially ones in for sale as I know most people cannot ride every day even if they mean to things get in the way and in my view no horse should need riding daily to keep it sane as long as it gets turned out.
With a few careful questions you may find that although someone says they ride daily they actually dont in reality, what about holidays do they leave it for a week then and just get back on, I can with any of mine, except a baby horse and you are not looking for a youngster.
 
I am very biased, but a Welsh section D might be just the job. Section Ds can be fairly leggy - depending on the breeding, obviously, and are extremely versatile.
