Ok so you get the kids that only want plods - shetlands that cannot move faster than a slow walk and spend their lives at a very sedate pace.

But what about a shetland that was very forward going, but not silly, but just a joyfull, active ride that liked to trot and canter everywhere? (not bolt or do anything nasty tho) are there small kids out there that prefer this sort of shetland? would also be good at gymkhana games, shettie grand national and jumping that sort of thing. But would definately be too sharp for the nervous type of kid, but perfectly manageable enough for a bolder child.

So would a shetland like this sell well? or do parents only want the safest ploddy thing possible for their small children?

Plods soon getting boring, more experienced riders will want something more forward going, so definitely think that there is a market there for them.

Hope you have as much luck as i had selling my shettie.

Thanks guys,jinglejoys-Are there serious scurry driving comps?
I like this pony so much that I wish that I could ride her in the grand national myself

Theres literally loads of serious scurry driving comps, what about HOYS & Olympia etc etc, they all have heats to get up there with the best....

My first pony was just like that - still have her 20 years on! Put her out on loan while at uni, they wanted something a bit "livelier" than their 12hh plod for their two children and she was just the thing.

Our shettie has just gone out on loan through the pony club. She is just as you described, always won the bending with my sisiter, jumps 1'6" courses easily and generally loves to bomb around. She is also a nice forward going quiet hack. My sister has outgrown her and we had people queing up after we advertised her for loan. BTW she is 22!
