Is There A Market For An Unbroken Pony?

I have got a similar pony up for sale at the moment but at nearly half the price of yours. I think they are very hard to shift as they are not childrens ponies until they are more educated but to small for an adult. There is very little market for them. I have only had one enquiry for mine.

You might get a better response by making him a little cheaper. Also New forests are quite common and you can get them very cheaply which doesnt help.

Good luck selling

I can't really afford to lose money on him and need to cover what I paid for him. I priced him as recommend by people who know a thing or two although I said offers and am bearing in mind that every body wants abit off. I worry that selling him cheap will let him get into the wrong hands.

Hum, will keep that in mind : )

I guess everybodies worried about money right now.

Theres quite a few inhand shows coming up so guess I'll be taking him.

Well a pony is only worth what someone will pay for it! Mine is more advanced in her education to yours being backed and hacking quietly and i was only offered £300 for her the other day!!

I turned it down as it was less than half her asking price.

I also think with the credit crunch and things going up so much due to fuel, people are just not buying at the moment. If we have some decent spring like weather you might see a difference in the market but at the moment it is a bad time to sell.

I guess it depends how badly you need to sell him as to whether you drop the price. If you have time to wait for the asking price you might get it

I prefer unbroken. They come with less human made problems, but i don't know many people like me, thank goodness i hear

You never know what they are going to turn into until they are ridden. I would say it is a very small market. I don't wish to sound mean but New Forest ponies are very common and don't seem to make much money. They can be bought further on in their education for the same money - jumping etc.
Sorry to seem negative.

Perhaps the ad is a bit wordy then.

Keep it simple.

Unbroken 3 year old - leave out all the fluffy bunny stuf....

I'm sorry but I think he's far too pricey

sorry.

I've had 2 youngsters in the last 3 years, both free, just had to have them gelded. Then my NF's were £600 each but were broken and had experience, they were 5 and 6. Trouble is with a NF is that you can go down to the forest sales and pick up a very nice one for a couple of hundred.

I'd say if you aren't getting calls then the it's almost always because the price is too high .... or the horse is incredibly ugly and badly put together. In your case I believe it is the former reason. Drop the price and I'd imagine you would have more interest.

I think the price maybe too high I paid £3000 for my 5yr 14h NF but he was broken in and hacking out and has super breeding.

You can get good prices for foresters but that tends to be only when they are broken in - unbroken 3 years old are selling at £850-900 mark.

Too pricey, sorry.

Got mine 10yrs ago fully broken & she was £350/£400. Yes, it was 10yrs ago but look at the equivalent you can get now for £1200.

I think he should be advertised for the £6/£750 mark.

If he'd been broken in & ridden away then you would probs get that price but at the moment I think you are hoping. Sorry, not meant to sound blunt but unbrokens are 2 a penny in some areas.

Most people looking for a project would search the under £1000 sections.

I bought a project recently and only searched those sections on all the sites I looked at.

Mine hasn't been handled much for last 18 months, 13.2 NF X Gipsy cob, bay tobiano with a lovely attitude, been here a week, done feet teeth bridle, saddle poles on ground ditches etc, will lunge as soon as I can get a helper and will back soon, he is 4.

I paid quite a bit less than yours. He is very well marked and has good conformation, I will show him in hand before he is sold as a PC pony.

Yeah, agree with Thistle. Ive bought the odd unbacked pony in the past but never pay more than £500 for them. Certainly wouldnt pay over £1k for a project. My current one I have backed and will get out competing before selling in the summer for probably £2500 depending on how well he does.

Too expensive IMO - simply because he is unbroken, and if somebody wants an unbroken project as has been said they can go down to the New Forest and pick up one for a few hundred quid.

I paid £1600 for my first newfie as an 8 year old, and he was hacking and jumping and stuff - and I know now that at the time he was only worth about half what we paid.

I would drop the price to around £800ono, I don't think he is worth more than that until he is backed.
