Older eventer's....17yr old but you wouldn't know it...been up the 3* and been jumped by both Michael and John Whitaker..won Eventer Gold Cup and Jump Hickstead in his younger days. Still out doing BE and all Pony Club Open Teams Jumps for fun never know to stop.
If so where would be the best place to advertise him...

Absolutly..

He would be best for someone who is wanting to compete and work through the levels and gain experience.

I would try H&H, Horsemart, Preloved and Local tackshops personally.

HHO? :) But you have kind of done that already ;)

:) Please note smiley face implying that I am not bitching ;)

All the usual Free-Ad type papers, online and off, Horse Mart etc.

Local RC, Pony Club?

Tack stores?

Also, in addition to 'For Sale' always advertise in 'Wanted' sections too, you know the thing "Wanted, competent rider looking for schoolmaster to take them further blah, blah,, blah........" many people browse through them looking for horses, I do.

When I am selling I advertise anywhere and everywhere - get the word out, the perfect person could live just down the road from you. You don't have to sell to the first person that trundles up to your yard gate :)

Opps sorry wasn't meant as an ad..just meant he is not retired or even looking for a hacking home..just with current market if people still want this age group of horses..didn't mean to break any HHO rules..
Just having a bit of a panic about selling ......

I personally wouldn't buy something for jumping/eventing at 17, as I feel there are many schoolmasters already out there who are much younger. Nothing against your boy just my opinion!

Yes, absolutely there is a market, though I find it sad how many people don't understand how much a true schoolmaster can bring on your riding.

Word of mouth is really your best bet, but Horsequest and the PC website would be a good start.

ETA if I had the time and space to run on another he could be ideal. Sadly I don't :(

a horse like this deserves to be kept going, so I would be likely to allow a college to have him on loan to give people a chance to feel what a good horse is like to ride. lets face it few can afford one and lots would benefit from his abilty. Rodbaston College Staffordshire would love him !

As Mark says, it would be worthwhile considering colleges if you wouldn't mind him going to that sort of environment, some horses seem to be happier with one or two riders rather than a whole bunch of them...I have had horses that were quite content to do that, others that would turn into fruit loops and be horribly unhappy at the constant change of jockey. Horses for courses and all that. :)

Agree that he deserves to be kept going but I really wouldn't want riders of very varying ability riding him if he were mine! A daughter who attended a large equine college would not ever consider it for any of ours because of the way they are kept. I am sure that a young up and coming rider would jump at the chance of a horse like this and I really hope you find him the home he deserves.

I too would be wary of a college, but somewhere like YRC or Talland may be interested, their schoolmasters are extremely well looked after and not overworked.

I think he would hate to be ridden by lots of people..he has only be ridden by one rider for the last 4 yrs..really needs another rider who wants to have a lot of fun from a horse that just lives to jump...
I think I will try HH and Pony Club website first...its nice to hear that there may well still be a market for him out there.. :)
The first horse I brought myself after a 20yr gap was 16 and was great for me..but market was much better at the time...

Absolutely a market! He'd be perfect for a competitive teen wanting to gain experience or someone older wanting to get back into competing.
I'd take him if I wasn't at university! :D
I'm sure you'll find someone lovely for him :)

I think he'd be fine for when my 13yo daughter outgrows her NF. (she definitely will have to do another year while I save!), Would look for something like that as her instructor will have a home-bred youngster for her to bring on a couple of years later, so would give her the schoolmster experiece she's not had to date. So yes, definitely a market for him.
