Is there a market?

Hi,
My other thread got me thinking, is there a market for an 8 year old 12.2 cob that you physically can not scare but hasn't done much roadwork due to the nearest road being the main one into my area and an accident blackspot.
He's been advertised on a popular site that costs £5 a year if that helps without dropping names for £500 ono but a good home is a must and first refusal if he was to be sold.
He has only been up for four days, but I put a 10 month old shetland filly I saved from the meatman on the same site with the same conditions for what I though was overpriced at £125 and the phone didn't stop ringing.
Is he over priced or is there just not the market for his type?

Agreed, but I refused the lady who planned to do just that. Call me silly but unless were talking a rather large garden I wasn't too keen on that idea to say the least.

It does annoy me when people think just because they're small they don't need adequate grazing or turnout, unfortunately too many people see them as big dogs

Although admittedly I did confuse her for my boxer when I pulled into the yard and didn't pay much attention...

Anyway.... Why can't I sell him? What am I doing wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong I think so many people can't afford the upkeep at the moment, you just need to look in local papers and there's so many being given away for free! I know you said the roads near you are dangerous but is there any way you could box the pony somewhere to do a bit of road work? It may put people off if they're unsure how he will react in traffic with their little darling on board ;)

Good point. Sad as it is though they're little darling isn't my worry, my little darling is.
I'm 100% trusting him with anyone in the yard/school lanes, just don't want to lead false pretences and say he'll walk down the m4.
I think I may just load him and do a few quieter.Roads with him although I jump more than him when a car comes flying around the corner in the lanes haha

Is there any other good advertising sites? I'm trying to be a little careful as I don't want him going somewhere that isn't a 100% secure and loving home hence I haven't put him on free sites, may draw.the wrong crowd.

Or am I maybe being a little over the top?

If it helps with any concerns about who browses the free sites - I got my TB from the Adtrader... Nothing like his description when we arrived but he was in such bad shape I couldn't leave him - he's now a different horse... A friend of mine who's a very serious rider bought her baby eventer from an ad in the FreeAds and our daughter's pony (he was exactly as advertised and with a lovely family) was advertised in there too... Section B, 13.2, 9yrs old and £450 - a bit low maybe as he is all they said he was but he has sweet itch...

Do you use Facebook? There's often horses for sale groups covering different areas of the country... You could try contacting the local PC and see if they know of any youngsters looking for a pony friend...

I do think the road work suggestion is good if you can go somewhere with him just to see how he copes - when we bought our daughter's pony, knowing he was good in traffic was a must as any leading out here is on a country road to access the forest... The farm machinery aspect didn't bother me as he would acclimatise to that without a rider on board... :)
