Take my female JRT to a fun charity show on sunday even though shes in season atm ? I've been looking foward to it for months so I'll be gutted if we have to miss it

Probs a silly question but im clueless about bitches seasons as Poppy is the only dog I've ever had un-spayed before and as far as I know shes only had one season ( 6 months ago just after we got her)

Darnnit , I've been looking foward to it for ages :/ and its on my nieces birthday , that was gonna be her like day -out kinda thing ...

But , these things happen I guess .

Its funny how you get used to having spayed bitches, it must be about 20 years since I had to put up with a bitch in season (I got both my whippets spayed and have had rescues ever since!)

Sorry that things havent worked out this time, could you not take your niece to the dog show and just leave Poppy at home just this once?
 
As above, please don't! I even leave a week either side just to be safe, the dogs will go bonkers and it just isn't fair.
All of the people at our club abide by this rule even if it means their females have to miss out on competitions where the stakes are high, it goes hand in hand with owning entire animals, I'm afraid!

Take your niece along anyhow, she will have a good day x
 
Agree , you really shouldn't. I do sympathise with you, Evie had a very mild dose of kennel cough, so was confined to barracks. She is now fine and I had planned to take her to a local funday, horse and dog show on Sunday, and guess what she came in season on Tuesday

She is also due to start training classes again next week, bless her she does have a superb sense of timing.

Ets. If Poppy had a season 6 months ago she is pretty regular. If you are planning on having her spayed the best time would be in about 2 -3 months, midway between seasons.
 
I have no idea what it is called and I'm just home for a short laundry and water the pot plants stay, so I don't have the time to look it up, but I have a spray that is made to disguise the scent of a bitch in heat and it works great. But it does depend on the bitch to, there was one of my late bitches that I wouldn't take to an obedience trainings because she simply couldn't concentrate on what I wanted her to do (all she could think about was boys) but with most of my bitches I can take them to both shows and trainings without any problems at all when in heat.

I don't allow them to pee everywhere and anytime when we are at the club/show and I don't allow other dogs to say Hello! A little spray in the "pants" fur around the interesting area and no male dogs have reacted even the slightest f.ex. when walking by us. Of course I try to not stand next to male dogs etc. but when it still has happened, there hasn't been any problems.


But even with the spray, it means that you have to focus on your dog and you can't relax and allow yourself to forget about it at any time!

There is a spray available, but not got a huge amount of faith in it. Our old stud dog used to recognise the scent of it, think it was like Chanel No 5 to him

I certainly couldn't take Evie in public at the moment even with a spray, at the risk of tmi her rear end is rather target like at present
