my dog is a 1 yr old gsd x kelpie, shes a lovely happy out going dog... but she sucks the corner of her blanket and whistles every evening, untill she falls asleep... any reason why? should i discourage it or leave her be?...

It's a self-comforting thing. She's maybe a little insecure or could have been removed from her mother too early as a pup, it wouldn't really bother me TBH, I would just ignore her or try and distract her, there's a lot worse things to be worrying about and other self-comfort by sucking the furniture :o

thankyou, i am thinking she was taken from her mum to early, i have only had her 2 months...

She might do it less as she settles in more with you, it will take time for her to feel properly secure and for you to really bond:) Just keep an eye on it and make sure she's not eating holes in the blanket (Henry has been known to do this!):) As CC says, I wouldn't worry about it too much though:)

thankyou.. she was a chewer. i have now crate trained her, she sleeps in that over night, but through the day she has a normall bed, with lots of chew things. hide things and a bone... she only dose it in her normal bed, maybe its a winding down thing as she is quite hyper.. she settled really well, was like she had been here yrs... lovely little dog...
