Had my dun mare for 13yrs and she came with no papers. Her Freeze mark was never clear as it's white but at the moment it's looking quite clear. Some like b149. The b and 9 could possibly be different but Ive always wanted to trace her past so would be good if there Was somewhere I could see who done the freeze mark. She's about 29 so could have been done yrs ago

I doubt they could give you more details betond saying its one of theirs and when it was done. Data protection and all that...

The mark is more likely to be a Farmkey one (4 digits) than a Freezemark one (3 digits)

Farmkey should be able to tell you when it was done (year) and in what area (location).
If you are not the current registered owner of that freezemark registration (through Farmkey), you do need to update your horse's details with Farmkey for security purposes (and god forbid horse getting out on roads or lost for any reason)

Farmkey may have previous owner details on their system. If they do ... You should be able to send a letter or email to Farmkey who will then forward it to previous owner.
Warning - you may be charged for this though.

Yeah we came up against that with a horse. They would forward a letter for a fee, think it was about £20 but it was a while ago, can't be sure. No response from the old owner. The freeze mark company also rang them after a lot of cajoling, left a message on the answer phone (which identified the same people were still at the address) and they didn't return the call. So got from that the old owners were saying screw you, which is their prerogative of course. Anyone would have thought that we were trying to give the old baggage back to them. :p

Good luck OP. I hope you get further with yours that we did.

thanks guys I will contact farmkey then, didn't think it was freezemark.biz as I have 2 with them and they are the 3 digit types!

She gets a full clip every year because of cushings but it doesn't help! because of her colour she goes Donkey colour, so its actually harder to work out when clipped! at the moment she has gone really golden (first summer I've not clipped her out) and its looking much clearer! So I will send them a pic of the mark too :)

oh and she's had a micro chip since the passport rule came in, so she should be okay, if she did ever get out! though she'd probably head straight for more grass if she did :D

The microchip would only help get her home if the people that found her had the sense to contact the police or some other horse organisation ... and then only " IF " the police or other actually had a microchip scanner to hand, and then there's 3 different types of chips and not all scanners read all chips

It's a pain, :D
