is there any unbreakable padlocks?

Are there any padlocks for tack rooms that are basically unbreakable?

There has been a brake in at my yard and we are not allowed alarms so is there any padlocks out there that are extremely safe? The people that got broken into had a padlock on but it was a normal one and obviously wasn't strong enough.

I like the disc padlocks that shut when you turn the key, they aren't cheap though

You really do get what you pay for with padlocks

What ever fitment you are attaching the padlock to needs to be good as well. No point having a good lock if you can prise the plate off

A decent hasp and staple with a quality padlock will give you the best chance, sadly you only have to make it more difficult - if they really want to get in they will but you should be able to stop casual thefts

Buy one with the highest rating you can from the likes of b&q....it may be pricey but we've had one withstand break-in attempts.

No, and if you get a tougher padlock they'll just put a hole through the walls if they really want to get in.

Put a reasonable padlock on but make sure all your stuff inside is also in locked containers bolted to the walls and / or floors. Use smartwater and tracker devices and make sure that is advertised on the outside of your storage - next to the padlock! You want to make them think it's all too much effort and they'll go and break in somewhere else.

Basically if someone ones to get in - they will. All padlocks can be broken by either brute force or cutting the hasp.

So the best you can do is make it as damn hard as possible, and that means buying a decent grade lock - not from b+q etc but security type places.

The better ones make it hard to get bolt cutters on - like a disc or bolt type

Hidden shackle ones take it a step further

You could be really nice and work out a way of electrifying said padlock

Obviously the padlock is useless if the doors to the building are hanging off, or there are rotten bits of wall etc.

I don't keep anything on the yard that i wouldnt be bothered about getting nicked....mark your rugs, leave nothing hanging about...but expect it to happen sooner or later.....
Having had tack stolen once from a livery yard, I never keep it anywhere but at home

Do you have insurance? Ours wouldn't cover unless steel door and 5 pin (i think) padlock.
Why no alarm... Could you have alarm on padlock? New forest council were giving them out cheap to residents recently... Tamper for more than a certain amount of time and they start screaming.

I always find the better a lock, the more tempting. Yard down the road with cctv and very good security is constantly broken into, we have never been touched. Anything from doors to gates at ours has heavy duty but old padlocks and old chain etc as dpesnt stand out.
And the disc locks are a nightmare if you fall over drunk with key in them... Too good at what they do

It was on a metal container too, I was not flavour of the month!

OH welded brackets around our padlock which makes it impossible to strike it with a hammer or jemmy it off. Its of a design where you cant get at it with bolt cutters.

I've had the smaller one of this type and the pin fell out not worth the money i'm afraid as once that falls out, you need a new one

I agree with this. We kept our tack in a shed without locks for three years, within six months of putting two padlocks on the door we were robbed of everything.

Nowadays we lock things away in lockers, but different things in different places and lockers, squirreled away everywhere, so if someone breaks in, there is a lot of breaking in to do - so things can't be stolen quickly.. They are also much further away from the road and locked gate - again to slow down someone who wants to do a quick hit and run robbery..

Hmmm, having seen a friend by a very expensive padlock, only to have the fence posts and gate chopped off to steal the trailer, I would say whatever you buy, if they want something, they will get it

I am lucky - I've inherited a steel tack box that is bolted to the wall, and needs an angle grinder to even attempt to get it off. But I know even that could happen.

If I'm not using something, it's stored in the garage.
