As title says is their any vans big enough to convert into a box for ben? Am looking into the option of doing this but wondering whether the internal height would be big enough for him?
I am sure their is one big enough as someone said but I dont know which as I cant tell as it doesnt say the internal height on adverts for them? Can anyone help please?

Or would it be worth just buying a small lorry?

Oh sorry how silly am I

Ben is 17.2 Just wondering as need something to get to shows and mum saw a converted van and thought it could be an option.

Well I don't think it would really be a safe option. Someone came to pick up one of rejects this week and he's a about 17hh, they had one of those converted transit hicubes and seriously if he put his head up it would have gone through the roof. We had a lot of trouble getting him to fit in it! I had an old bedford CF lorry after looking at loads of vans to convert for my 15hher. After working out conversions costs - flooring etc it was cheaper to buy a small old lorry, I ran it for 5 years and only sold it to fund my Oz trip. I guess you have one of those stupid new licenses like mine.

Lol yeah sure do.
We was just looking into the option, I have seen a rather large van but cant remember what make it was, and was pretty sure ben would fit in it.
The costs arent so much of a problem to be honest, my dad and his friends can do that its the will any van be big enough really.

The best ones we looked at were the Mercedes ones they are well built and huge! If you can get a twin axel it will be more stable as this is one of the problems with van conversions with a loose weight like a horse in the back.

be careful with buying a van as the payload may not be enough. Some are on a 3.5 ton chassis which means that the total weight for vehicle and horses when converted cannot exceed that.

If your thinking of converting, the sprinters and some of the new hi roof maxus models would be large enough. However bear in mind that most vans have a payload of approx 1,200kg. Alter it with much in weight, put in one average horse and you either break the law with axle weights or you venture into neding a tachograph and very expensive insurances/operator licence/etc

My Oh has the biggest Merc Sprinter van you can get for work, and there is no way Beau would fit in it Vicky, they just arent high enough.

Also didnt you say Ben is actually more like 18hh ? In that case he def wont!

Oh thanks for that, least it cleared that option up lol.
I did wonder about the weights and that, I think will be easier to get a small lorry and do that up instead.
