Hi,

I just wondered if there was such a thing as VIP parking at Bramham?

I've looked on the website and as far as I can see you can book normal tickets or member tickets but both come with public car park passes.

I haven't been to Bramham since I was a child and we parked what seemed like miles away.

I know this sounds very lazy of me but if its a wet weekend I wanna know that I can get back to my car pretty quick.

Agree with Hippona, i go every year and have been is probably most of the car parks and no where is what id class as far away if was a wet day.. 5-10min walk max id say..

I've been the last few years, and always been parked near the gates and shopping village.. Are you sure you're not thinking of Badminton or Burghley - then you really can be far away! Perhaps they have just improved things since you last went - its one of the friendliest and best organised of the big events.

Usually VIP parking means alongside the course, so you would be at the back of the queue to get out anyway..

I wouldn't worry, they've been saying the ground was fine even during the rain, so this dry spell should have made it great..

Members used to have forward parking at Bramham but they did away with it a few years ago :-( I did contact them regarding this change and their answer was that some members turned up later on in the day and complained because the members car park was full. It's not rocket science to work out that you only need to print a disclaimer on the members tickets to point out that in the event of a late arrival a space could not be guaranteed. It was always a selling point of the members pass for me and Burghley still provide forward parking for members! The car parks though are not that far and if you get there early you are usually closer to the arena areas.

They generally change the parking to a different area on the Saturday than they do for Thurs/Fri/Sun. I always think it's quite a long way but, in reality it's not, I just get stroppy cos I live locally and they used to be a lot more lax when it came to letting you park - you just went wherever! :)
The 'VIP' parking now is not normally for members - on the saturday the closer parking is reserved for disabled parking although there are a fair few members who somehow managed to get in to that bit. Depends how cheeky you are I guess and what time you get in and who's on the gates! :)
I just hope the sun shines, it's been soo lovely for the last week or so I am worried it's going to rain!!! :(

Thanks for all you replies, I ordered my members tickets last night anyway.

I suppose everything seems bigger (or farther away) when you're a child :D

I can't wait.

I also hope the weather is nice for it. I went to the Burghleigh cross country day last year and the weather was beautiful.

I'm struggling with parking at Bramham too (we've been going for 20+yrs) as my elderly Dad is fine walking on the flat but with any kind of hill his heart condition & asthma make it very hard for him. The Saturday parking at Bramham is normally a 5-10 min walk down and back up a big hill to the trade stands, arenas etc. and he had 2 asthma attacks en route last year :(

He doesn't qualify for a govt disabled car pass as he can walk perfectly well so long as its flat. I spent a polite note to Bramham with my ticket booking asking for a parking space nearer the arenas and they sent a note back saying he just needs to display his govt disabled car park pass *headdesk*.

I got my tickets and member badges the other day (ordered at 10pm the night it closed) and the car park tickets say "PUBLIC 12". Theres one for Saturday and another exactly the same for Sunday.

Anyone know where PUBLIC 12 car park is?

we've ordered both members and normal tickets for Saturday and both sets came with Public 12 tickets. I had a look at the site plan online and I'm hoping that's the one behind the house, not the one miles away up a big hill. I think it also depends which entry point you use - you can check the map here http://www.bramham-horse.co.uk/images/uploaded-files/docs/Combined Course Map - FINAL.pdf

I think the 12 refers to the year so that you can't use the same parking ticket year after year -I guess public just means public car park as opposed to the car park for officials (stewards, FJs etc).

If you can get a doctors note for your dad explaining his situation then take it with you and head over to the disabled car park.

My mum broke her leg a couple of years ago and was in a cast and obviosly we didnt have a 'disabled' badge for that but took a doctors note with us and they let us park in the disabled bit - made wheeling her over to the arena a LOT easier!

Cheers Georgiegirl - I'll see if he's due at the docs this week. Plan B is for me to drive so I can drop him off if we pass anywhere near the arenas en route to the car park.

I just told them one year I was meeting my friend who was in a wheelchair/buggy and therefore needed to be in the disabled parking! Lol. That's cos I am a naughty local! :)
I wasn't completely lying, my friend who i was meeting was/is in a wheelchair, I just wasn't picking her up! If you can get a doc's note then I would suggest doing that but otherwiseI would just suggest driving in the main entrance - if you're coming from Leeds way just go along A58 and turn up either Thorner Lane (Scarcroft) or Mill Lane (Bardsey) and follow the signs to Bramham Park. You want to go in the main entrance (this will not be for public parking entry on the saturday) but drive in and appeal to their better nature! That is what I would suggest. They want people in, you've paid or are paying for your ticket(s) so it makes no difference to them where you park and there is plenty of space there in reality (although i know they've jigged stuff around a bit this year to accomodate the additional horses etc)

Pulling this thread up for a rant!

We camped at Bramham, and my mother, who has suffered a lot and been in and out of hospital with her heart this year, was going to come on the Friday to meet us. As the weather was so bad I told her not to bother as it was mostly cancellled that day, but blow me, when I'm half way round walking the XC on Sunday I get a text from her "we're here!". She was with my elderly aunt. They both used to be good walkers, but have struggled lately with various things. After they had got back to the shopping village and watched some of the SJ standing up (no seats) they were really tired and wobbly. Their car was as far away as possible, behind the rider's area and stables. We asked if they could go on a buggy back up, and they refused. I explained that I was worried she may not make it and there was nobody around if she did collapse up there, but they just said go and speak to the paramedics. I pointed out that she didn't need a paramedic YET, but they insisted on her seeing them. The official was really rude, saying that I shouldn't have brought my mother and I should have told her how much walking there was etc, as though she was some dog I could have left at home - she drove there herself without me knowing, and she was there, so it wasn't much help saying that! I ended up going into the secretary and eventually after a lot of fuss, they offered to take her on a buggy, but not her 76 year old, exhausted companion! In the end we gave up, and walked both of them up the big hill, sitting them on the floor every now and again to catch their breath.

I was disgusted at Bramham and ashamed to be from Yorkshire. This country is meant to be equal opportunities, not just for disabled people, but elderly etc. I seriously hope nobody ever treats the official's elderly mothers in that way!

To add insult to injury, on the way up we were passed by buggies full of kids, dogs, empty ones with drivers racing each other! They were obviously not being used "just for riders" as we were told.

Shame on you Bramham officials!
