Currently have Madam in a neue schule loose ring lozenge snaffle but am finding that steering can be a little lacking when she diverts her attention to something far more interesting!! She goes really, really well in the bit and both my instructors agree that the mouthpiece and loose rings suit her well (have tried straight bar happy mouth LR, rubber straight bar LR, single jointed LR, french link LR and a single jointed eggbutt and she doesn't like them! The eggbutt doesn't seem to give enough play and she really likes the lozenge - hated the single joint and was very stuffy and grinded her teeth on the striaght bar! Rench link was just a liitle too harsh for her and I needed the lightest of hands otherwise she became quite heady.)
BUT I find that, for example out hacking, if something takes her interest she turns her head to look and then would really like to wander over to take a look
Seat and legs steering is getting there but really I need her concentrating on me in the first place to for total effectiveness and so when I back up with my reins I find that the bit slides and gets pulled through her mouth so instructor suggested something with cheeks - ideally a fulmer as it still has loose rings - just to help keep the bit where it should be until our steering is a little better!
Any ideas
