Is there such thing as a fieldsafe headcollar?

I know they have ones they call field-safe. But has anyone found one that truly was safe enough to be used for turnout?

When I was young and foolish it never bothered me to turn out in a headcollar, now Im afraid to!

Any reccommendations?
Ps Its only for a fly fringe to be fitted to as my horse doesnt like the type with ears or that go round his throat...

I always just use a leather headcollar (if I need to leave one on for any reason). There are fieldsafe one which have rubber rings (instead of metal), which break if caught.

If I keep a headcollar on I use a cheap leather headcollar - about £10 on e-bay and still going strong (although scruffy) two years later.

I got an old headcollar and cut the metal rings off with a hacksaw then replaced the rings with double thickness plaiting thread. This will hold a fly fringe, but is not strong enough to lead them in. It would break easily if got caught on something.

I use the fieldsafe one, its nice and soft, held together with rubber rings, not for leading in thou! I use it to put a nose net on to prevent sunburn as daily suncream was making her nose really soft and the fur was coming off!

I've tried the fieldsafe but it broke too easily if anything. I prefer a leather one, the oldest tattiest thing I can find

I have a fieldsafe headcollar which we use for the youngsters, it is velco'd together, velcro nose strap and over the head piece, so if it does get caught up on anything the headcollar just drops off.

you can buy a little gadget from saddlery shops, think it's called 'fly free link' and it's just a webbing buckle with a velcro strap - you buckle it to the head collar buckle and then if the headcollar gets caught and horsey pulls away, the velcro enables it to fall apart. very safe as you don't need one headcollar for leading etc, and one for the field.

I've always used a Fieldsafe one for a fly fringe and the rubber rings DO break if necessary: Here is my mare modelling her Fieldsafe headcollat and Naf-off fly fringe . . . .

The ones with velcro look ok, but after my mare got her headcoller caught on a stable bolt and broke her jaw I never leave a headcoller on in the field or the stable.
