Princess Haya has said in this article that she wants to compete for Jordan in the 2012 Olympics in London.

It doesn't sit well with me that the President of the FEI, and a member of the IOC could also be a competitor. I think it could be a conflict of interest.
Or maybe I'm just being churlish?

I'm old school so agree with you although showjumping is slightly different in that it doesn't go by judges' opinions. However, if she were to compete, she would hardly have her mind on her day job (which is far more important IMV) would she, so I say a definite NO!
I always think that no committee member should take part in their own club's shows/events especially where the result depends on a judge (unlike SJ to a degree where it's cut and dried), they should be on hand to help, there are plenty of other competitions elsewhere for them.

I don't feel right about her competing either - shes either a competitor or the president and comittee member - she can't be both and still run a fair competition IMO

How likely is she still to hold either of those posts? The FEI president is elected every 4 years with a maximum of two terms. She was elected in 2006 so potentially could still be in office in 2012 as long as she puts herself forward for re election and wins it in 2010.
