Is this a Mule foal?

hi there,

My grey donkey is alleged to have sired this foal, which is a few days old. Does it look like a mule foal to you? I am no expert.

I have never seen a mule foal but that looks like a pony foal to me ,legs are of the length you would expect and it seems to have tiny ears ,it does not resemble a donkey at all.

Looks like a pony foal to me, I've had a quick look on the web at photos of mule foals and it looks nothing like them.

I've just had a google too & it looks nothing like a mule foal. I think it's a normal foal.

I think it highly unlikely my donkey sired the foal and I agree with you. He is a bog-standard small grey donkey.

Who can conclusively prove this? Is it a dna test or something? How much does it cost? I've emailed the Biritsh Mule society for an opinion also.

You can get DNA testing done, price varies if you google equine DNA testing and check out the sites

Don't think so! My friend's pony had a mule foal this year and it REALLY looks like a mule! HUGE ears - VERY cute - it came out of a shetland crossed with a donkey. I'd post a pic but not sure how sorry!

Looks like a normal little foal to me too, if they are adamant it is a mule, get a DNA to prove otherwise, as it looks like a normal pony to me

Yup looks like a normal pony foal. I personally would suggest that they do a DNA test if they are worried, and if it turns out that your donkey is the sire, you refund them the cost!

It looks nothing like a mule. I did wonder if maybe they 'grew into' their mule looks, but if you google mule foal pics they are all really obvious, especially the ears and head/neck.

Ha, are they trying to set the horsey CSA on you!? Looking at those extremely chunky little legs I'd be watching out for a cob/heavy with a wayward glint in his eye. Passing gypsies at some point?

Actually the person is (or was) getting free grazing from me for the mare until the foal was born, on the basis that the foal is "mine". This is changing now in that I will present the person with a bill!!

It is slightly annoying in that it the person must clearly have been aware all along that the donkey was not the true Father, therefore I have been the victim of a cynical ruse.
