Is this a pony saddle??

Surely it depends on the length and width? It seems to come in a good range of sizes. My pone has a 15" saddle - my bum doesn't fit in it! - and horse a 17.5".
Ideals are lovely saddles, though.

Well I got one off ebay at a bargain price, got it for under £200 and its only been used a few times, its 17inch (I do not need one any bigger) and medium width, which is the same as his wintec 500. It just looks small, not in the seat but the flaps look small. I havent tried it on him yet but it just looks like a pony saddle.

If its says its designed for children and small adults then the size of the flaps will be scaled down for a smaller / shorter leg. It isn't just the seat size that indicates whether it's designed for adults

How tall are you? You might find the flap finishes at a silly point on your leg if you're quite tall.

I am 5ft 6. I just dont want to waste money getting the saddler out if the saddle is totally unsuitable.

Should I just try it on him, have a sit in it and see how it feels?

I dont see why not. If its the right fitting in the tree and length, then the flaps are more an issue for you than for him. They might possibly look a tiny bit odd, but for the most part, you'll be sat on him anyway and people won't notice.

You arent very tall... but without seeing the saddle its hard to know just how short it is in the flaps. If I was you, I'd hop on and see what you think from there.

What I will do is take it the yard tonight and get a photo of it on him then of me on the saddle and see what you guys think. If you all think it looks ok then I will give the saddler a ring and make sure it fits correctly.

Thanks for all the help
