Kitting new boy Deano out with a new wardrobe. Tried him in my old boy's 5.5" Myler which was too big and my friend's TB's 5" sweet mouth snaffle which was too small. So I bought him the 5.25" neue schule team up - do you think it still looks too small for him?

Sorry for the dumb question - I know i should be able to answer it myself  All opinions appreciated.

I'd say it's ok. Just. Horses go better in bits not too wide IMO, as they fit better inside. Watch out for pinching of the lip, which is the only thing that can bother him with this loose ring. I've a double-jointed one that fits exactly the same and the horse loves it and there are no pinch marks nor any defensive reaction from him.
I've no doubt a lot of people are going to say it's too tight though....awaiting ....:D

Thank you :)
The 5.5 was HUGE on him so thought this would be ideal - didn't expect it to be so snug tho. Think i might have read somewhere that this kind of bit comes up small.

Deano certainly seemed to like it - he wouldn't give me it back :D

Mylers come up a size too big. My girl takes a 6" but had a 5.5" in a Myler.

The NS looks ok from the pic. You should be able to put a finger between the side of her mouth and the bit ring

I believe the NS bits are meant to be a fairly snug fit. Looks about right to me.
actually that was I was starting to think too. Mine's a Waldhausen (probably a copy of the Neue Schule and the same type of bit) and being 5" it's theoretically bigger than I wanted and it fits exactly like this, so basically it's likely the way they're supposed to fit.

You could do like me Emilieu and always rub a bit of vaseline in the corners of the lips before you ride out. It takes a second and it lubricates everything nicely until the horse gets to salivating a bit himself.

Looks fine. I had exactly the same problem with my new boy a couple of weeks ago and bought same bit as you, same size and it fits just like yours. 2 weeks in he's now very happy in it and going beautifully.

I started a thread just like this when I got my NS bit as I wasn't sure either! Someone suggested getting somebody to look at the bit when a contact is taken up as the fit seems to improve - I did this and even though I was so unsure from the ground, it fits perfectly when I'm onboard and holding the reins correctly. It's never rubbed her and though it's quite hard to see from those pictures, I think it looks similar to how yours does so would think that's fine :)
