My Stubben 'Havana' bridle came today, i presumed havana was that cigarish colour but its like this

im not sure if i like it or not, it wont match my saddle.....
however its a bit more unusual, im debating sending it back-what do you all think, am i going to get dirty looks from other riders for having an almost 'red' bridle?

It is tricky isn't it?! The disparity could be caused by them having sent the wrong one, because they have a dodgy batch of colourant or it could just be the colour settings on your PC that made you think Havana was darker than Stubben say it is? I am another advocate of black for simplicity

I would say send it back and ask for an alternative colour, or perhaps some colour samples to avoid repeat problems?

I would suggest sending the bridle back & asking them to swap for the 'choco' one.

I have the 'choco' bridle & would describe it as a more classic havanna. Hopefully this should match your saddle

Good luck!

Go for the Choco, for some reason,Stubben havana is a red colour!!!

Maybe they think red is brown or something, but I've found that "choco" is the nearest to "havana"

ok, she is chestnut if that helps ??

would the fact that we got this bridle in the sale make a significant difference? :S

Could you try leather darkener from hydrophane if you really didn't want to send it back. Bridles darken with age and oiling too though in my experiences. Although personally I would send it back and get another colour if it's possible.

Nope. The concensus is that it isn't Havana, therefore is not as described. Unless of course it is a well known fact that their Havana is red

I actually think that bridle IS havana.

Trouble is, Havana in the UK is used to describe any kind of brown ie Jefferies Havana is different to Mark Todd, to Collegiate etc. Brown or chocolate is actually the colour of all of these bridles, not havana!

I like it actually

Havana in the UK and Havana in the US are two different colours, this is where the confusion arises. In the US, Havana is the reddy colour, dark havana is the browny colour - in the UK, they use Havana to mean the darker Havana, but the reddy one is still technically Havana.

You could ask them if they will swop it, but the item is as described really.

Id say its burgandy and TBH in not a fan but it will darken with age ?
Do agree that thereis loads of confusion with 'Havana' shades, hence the fact all my tack is black!

I brought a havana stubben bridle about 11years ago - and it has got darker with age I think (or maybe that's just dirt... LOL). I remember when I first had it I wasn't sure if I liked it - but it has grown on me.

I am pretty sure that this is the same havana that stubben bridles are - as others have said the choco is the darker brown colour.

Since my stubben bridle though I have always brought black bridles - much easier!!!

Stubben use different names for colours than other people. certainly Sedgewicks are different, as are other leather makers. As previously said Stubbens Choco is most peoples havanna. Stubbens Havanna is 'our' Australian Nut or Oak brown.

I have a bridle that started off this colour. Had it for about 12 years or more, it's now a lovely warm brown, the leather and stitching are excellent.

My horse is chestnut and it always has looked lovely on him

Just to give you an idea what it looks like on a chestnut

I think this colour is true havana NOT brown (which is commonly thought to be havana)

Its a lovely bridle , I say keep it
