Well, went up to see my ponies this morning, and discovered my 15.2hh gelding didnt have a rug on. I thought - oh no - another broken rug to replace! Well after traipsing around the field i found a single pile of 'rug'. This is strange because normally there would be bits of torn rug everywhere. So, I picked up the pile of rug, to discover it was completely intact! it was inside put, but every buckle was done up and as tight as it could go. It has an attached hood as well! i might have thought this was some practical joke - but we live in the middle of nowhere! he is now aviador 'houdini' - he may not be able to figure a lot of things, but he sure as hell can escape a rug!

Oh most definately all of my horses have a talent for getting rugs off without undoing the buckles!!! my old boy in his younger days could get any rug off he should have been a rug tester!

If it is windy they can end up with the rug being blown (and wriggled) off much in the same way as you would roll up a pullover over your head. No undoing of buckles required.

I have seen this happening from ny kitchen window on a few occasions. If the rug doesn't have legstraps the wind can get under the rug and blow itup and over the horses back. Another guest of wind and the horse putting its head followed by a quick wriggle and the rug is on the floor.

Yes a livery at our place does it with a mark todd combo rug if the hind leg straps aren't done up properly! Just putting his neck down pulls the rug forward and eventually over the head! Combos and neck covers are the worst for it as the neck part pulls the main rug forward when the horse puts it's neck down.

Yep our sec B does this if you ever forget to put the leg straps or a fillet string on (have a couple of rugs where leg straps broke so now have to swap them over) - its the wind it blows it up and over!
