£200??? how much would you be using. for your average horse a 20kg sack would last 2 months. are you looking at using original?

A bag of D&H leisure mix is about £8 and weighs 20kg (I think). Fed at 700g a day that would work out at about one bag every four weeks. Could you use the Blue Chip as a balancer and mix with a cheaper feed? Unless you mean 700g twice a day, which means you can double the cost but it still works out cheaper!

ohhh i think i have just got what they said on the Blue Chip site, would 700g be just on its own as i would be mixing it in with other feed so would i be able to use less?

I have no idea! I know you can use Blue Chip as a balancer with cheaper horse feed, but I have no idea how much your horse will need in total. I am hopeless with weights, I always use scoops and have no idea how much one holds. Sorry! I have never heard of anyone feeding Blue Chip on its own though.

Blue chip is the balancer, i use topspec its £30 ish for a 20kg bag and that lasts around 6 weeks.

I wouldnt say a 17hh horse needs as much as 700g. Its 1gram per Kg and i wouldnt thing he will be as much as 700Kg, my 17.1hh was around 650Kg but he was heavily built.

Anyway that will give you a good base give him everything he needs vitamins and minerals and make him get the best out of his feed. Alongside this i woould feed Alpha A oil and a feed such as calm and condition.

there are other higher energy mixes you can feed but it depends on how much energy you want him to have.

Also good quality forage is paramount, haylage has more nutritional value but has to be fed in higher quantites because of water content and can cause excess energy. I feed a good quality hay and that does the trick, also it should be adlib

Hope that helps a bit

I have a 16h2" Hann x TB showjumper and I feed him Ride & Relax, HiFi Lite, carrots & a small amount of Blue Chip Original in each feed. He has ad lib hay also. I use a little plastic jug which comes with the washing powder to measure out the blue chip. He has one of those in each of his feeds. This does the job, he looks & performs well, his topline & condition is great & a bag of blue chip lasts ages, a couple of months, may be more.

Be careful about feeding the amount they say on the bags. Heavy/medium & light work that they refer to is in regards to professional riders horses who are in topflight competition, most leisure riders work would barely be classed as light work on their reckoning. It will cost you considerably less than £200 for 6 months.
