that's what i was thinking... let's cross the most intelligent, notoriously obstinate equid on the planet with something wild off the plains, and see what happens. woo hoo.
I think someone's been watching Racing Stripes and believing every moment. ;(

They have what they call Zeedonks at Colchester zoo, and I have seen them so they are real! What I'd like to know is how someone comes by a foal and then would want to sell it! The ad is from someone in Wisbech which isn't far from me. I'm almost tempted to go have a look!

Ok just googled Zeedonks and it seems that the last one at colchester zoo was pts last year. This was on the website which explains how they come about,
Press Information
Colchester Zoo mourns the loss of Shadow the Zeedonk - 03-Apr-09
Colchester Zoo is mourning the loss of the last Zeedonk at Colchester Zoo. Shadow the Zeedonk sadly had to be put to sleep this morning at the age of 34 years old as her health was deteriorating to a point which was going to compromise her welfare.

Three Zeedonks were born at Colchester Zoo in the early 1970s following the result of an accidental mating between a male Chapman’s Zebra and a female Black Ass. This was only possible because both species are part of the Equus genus and, therefore, very closely related. The results of such a cross creates a hybrid animal which would always be sterile, and such matings are no longer a feature of modern zoos which strive to keep genes as pure as possible. Unfortunately, several wildlife parks did initiate the same type of cross in the following years, but the Zeedonks at Colchester Zoo were the first of their kind.

Shadow was the last surviving Zeedonk and had reached an extraordinary age bearing in mind that Zebras generally only live for around 20 years. Anthony Tropeano, Zoological Director commented that, “Shadow a very popular and obviously an extremely unique animal. She will be sadly missed by her keepers and the visitors that knew her so well

i don't dare show nick.... he'll have visions of turning into a zonkey breeder (it took me weeks to convince him we shouldn't get into bison breeding, which was closely followed by ideas of alligator breeding... don't ask).

You can buy zebra quite easily I think - there was always a full page advert in near the front of Horse Deals magazine, think they were a Dutch yard where they sometimes had zebra advertised! They were only about £4k/£5k so not even expensive as such! I did ask my boyfriend if I could have one but he felt NE Scotland would be a bit too chilly for one

Alligators?! Crikey! You can't ever say that man lacks ambition!! X

[/ QUOTE ]

yes, alligators. it wasn't hard to persuade him that was a daft idea (he thought he could convert UK peeps to alligator meat, because i ONCE ate it in a restaurant). however, it took a while to convince him rearing Bison was a bit beyond him... apparently they're very aggressive. he thought he'd be so nice to them that they'd like him, and be nice...

ambition? no. crazy dreamer? yes...

gotta love him eh? xxx

How could you not!!.. Bless Nick and his cuddly alligators!!

Maybe you could let him have a zebra instead?? It would be very cool, but less likely to eat him!!
