Robin has this swelling tonight. It is in both sides and goes over the front of his forehead. Hadn't gone down after 2 hours in and in fact seemed bigger. He has never had grass glands before but these seem a little too far forward? His wound has also swollen more despite Bute. I think I need to call the vet tomorrow but don't want to be an idiot if just grass glands!

Never seen one swell there or across the front of the head, well I did, but it was a grey with melanoma which burst in an abscess and it took ages to get that big. Grass glands are more behind the jaw.

That's what I thought. Minto got them and they were always further back round the jaw. But yard know it all was convinced grass glands. I will ring vet tomorrow if not gone.

Never seen glands there, I do know one who gets very bad glands and she does swell in that area but it comes from under her jaw around onto her cheekbone and upto ears (looks like a hamster) but the just in that area.
Could he have been stung/bitten?
Also the wound could be up because of the heat and flies? Not sure if it's covered over or not yet-
If not covered assume he still on antibiotics?

I wondered about behng stung but it seems very uniform in both sides. Wound is on elbow so impossible to cover. I did wonder if it was flies and I kept him in for a couple of nights incase. We are really lucky at yard tho and there are rarely any flies about and none that I have seen today or yesterday. No he is not on antibiotics anymore. He was on them for about 2 months and that's at be about 6 weeks since he stopped them. Wound is still clean with no signs of infection.

This is the wound today. You can see extra swelling below and to the inside. It had been puffy round the edges but had been reducing.

Unlikely to be grass glands there. Have seen that exact same swelling once before and on that occasion it was allergy driven due to the horse eating acorns - too early for acorns at the moment (although the oak leaves & bark are poisonous too) but is there anything around that could be triggering a reaction?

No acorns about. Typical boring livery yard field with no trees or anything. A couple of thistles tho, I didn't look to see if he had eaten them.

Dizz has had these come up a couple times over the last few weeks, not as big as yours though. They've always gone down within a couple days so I haven't worried about it but I did consider ringing the vet the first time I saw them. I suppose I would have done if they stuck around any longer than a couple days.

I would be thinking horsefly first. One of mine had several saucer size swellings on belly and just behind girth area a couple of days ago. They went down in 24 hours but were hot and spongy to touch.

when mine have had grass glands they are usually further - I suspect what ever it is will go down over night so check in the morning before you think about phoning the vet - if it has gone down but not completely disappeared I personally won't phone the vet I would wait and see what happened

I have once or twice had swollen glands there due to the grass
