(sorry no pics!) My unclipped mare (cob) so quite a hairy girl has got what either looks like a very very very dusty coat or something else which i am not too sure of. If you lift some of her coat up, it's covered in white/grey coloured what looks like dust but its all over her! Obviously, i can't bath her, what else do i do? clip her?

Yep sounds like dander.... which is "horse dust"!! Difficult to shift in a long coat, but will blunt clipper blades quickly too!!

I have the same problem with mine when they are unclipped. There's a brush you can get but I'm not sure what its called...

It's round with rubber spikes on it which get into the coat and lift greases etc to the surface. A rubber curry comb used in a circular motion works well too. Makes for good arm exercise!!

Leovet do a product called NoRub which is designed to help itchy skin in horses (you brush it in til it lathers then brush it out and dry it off) we used it on one of ours last winter when he was itchy and it took away all his dry dustyness too.
worth a try even if your mare isn't itchy.
is she rugged at all? sometimes it helps to get rugs cleaned cos they can hold onto all that stuff!
