Being a new horse owner i am very sensitive at the moment to any little symptoms with my boy and i maybe over worrying myself. Hopefully, someone will be able to tell me if this is normal or justpurely a characteristic of my horse!

I have noticed my horse often has quite a runny nose at various times including after/during being ridden. Its normally clear liquid but sometimes has a slight whitish look to it.

Also, when i ride (this is difficult to explain) particularly in trot he almost sounds like a person trying to breath with a cold with every step of trot. It isnt all he time, he'll literally do it for a lap of the manage and then blow his nose like most horses do. The noise stops and then probably 10mins later he'll do it again. It doesnt seem to bother him and he doesnt slow to walk etc.

Is this a symptom of anything? Are they linked? Or is it simply apart of his charateristic and i'm being too vigilant??

unless the nose stuff turnd yellow/green i wouldnt worry. white generally means an allergy to something and clear is normally, particularly when working.

as for the breathing, is it almost like something stuck in their throught or a hiccup?

Is he living in on hay? it sounds like typical signs of allergy to dust or hay spores.
The heavy breathing is linked to the nasal discharge, was this not noticed when he was vetted or have you changed his management.
I would address this asap ,out as much as possible, dust free bedding, wet hay or haylage and if symptoms persist get the vet, he can prescribe drugs to clear the airways but management is key.

Umm he's had it since he arrived, he was 5 stage vetted and nothing was mentioned. He's turned out 24/7 and not eating hay at the moment as we have plenty of grass. Which is exactly the same as his previous home. Can't think of anything he could have an allergy to.

At first i thought it could be stress of new home. He is havin vet on Monday for his jabs, so i think i'll get her to check him over.

In that case it could be a virus picked up with moving to a new environment, he should clear within a week or two, the vet should be able to put your mind at rest.
It did sound like classic allergy but not likely if living out 24/7
