Is this old

oh rite thanks, what about a 14 year old fell pony who has only been used as a companion and pleasure rides? the odd jump?

IMO just a baby at 14.

My old boy is 37 this year and only retired him last Feb. He was hooning around the field today like a horse half his age.

As others have said though, it all depends on the horse. I also think that horses / ponies are living longer (or maybe it just seems like that) nowadays. My mare had to be PTS at 25 due to health issues and last Easter I lost my mini shetland suddenly and she was only about 16.

im sorry to hear that, i couldnt imagine how you felt..
i heard it from a newspaper saying they rarely live older than 20's and people round about really.
i dont know how to add pictures onto my signature but here is a link with a few of him. on some it isnt me riding him as he was supposed to be coming home the other day but the livery wasnt ready so it might be the end of this month instead:( the owner is keeping him in work for me:)

some of you may have seen these photos when i was asking about his breed

20 used to be considered old for a horse or pony. These days 14 would be considered young, and 20 getting old. Like humans, and every other animal, with advances in every area, medical, nutritional, care etc, lfe expectancy has advanced considerably too.
