To those that are interested in any, go and have a good look and if you like, just bear in mind the old saying of " caveat Emptor " let the buyer beware! But then to be honest that applies to all horses.
What amazes me is even though it is clear he is dodgy has been prosecuted several times and is a crook people will still go and line his pockets, go to a sale or try and buy cheaply privately dont keep these sorts of people going in their business.
It was only recently a dealer not far from this area was the cause of the latest outbreak of swamp fever after bringing in horses with false papers what you have to consider is what goes on behind the scenes with these types they cause more suffering to horses and people than anything else and as a matter of principle i wouldnt give them a penny if i never had another horse as long as i lived.
Hmm I agree with mcnaughty too, I have to say, I bought a pony from a dealer who had a reputation for being dodgy a few years ago, cheapish, turned out to be the best pony I ever had and was a right cracker, not one problem. Yet I bought the horse I have now 4 years ago from a private seller for 3500, and he has endless problems, he wasnt a fantastic horse in every way to start with, and many people will ask what the hell was I thinking, my heart got the better of me! So I would say at least have a look, but be cautious and take a few experienced people with you and get the ones you like vetted.
I was reading an article in The Gardian where Irish horses are being dumped on land to forage for themselves because the owners simply cannot afford them anymore. Apparently there are aproximatly 20,000 horses effected by the recession in Ireland!
These horses may be a result of this. Given to this dealer by owners that can no longer afford them. Dealer will have no clue as to their history and looks like he is selling them for about 30% above his transport costs.
You could buy an unsound horse that lasts you years, you could buy a sound horse that falls and breaks it's leg in the first week. I'm local to the dealer, I'm tempted to have a look! What concerns me is that all of the horses seem to be good in traffic, suitable for novice, good doer etc etc. These horses will sell all day long for much more than the advertised price....so all is not what it seems...
