Hi All.

My TB has always had Rhino rugs, and always been 6ft. Noted this year that his rug was rubbing his shoulders, not covering his tummy very well, and a bit of his bottom exposed. Tried Mum's 6ft 3 Amigo on him & it fitted well, so decided that I would start to buy him the bigger size from now on.

Got a deal on a Rambo Duo this weekend. It arrived today, and I now think it's too big :(:(:(.

Fits round the neck really nicely. Don't think it's particularly too long in the body, and the depth is fine in that if you wrapped it underneath him, there would be a small gap before the two hems meet if you know what I mean?......!

BUT....The surcingles are insanely long. They are on the shortest setting, and it is not wrapping under his tummy at all as a result. See photo below. What do you all think??

Keep it and try & get the surcingles shortened, or send it back :(.

Thanks! :D

Thanks guys. You've cheered me up! :D. It was £187 from trot2.com which is the cheapest I've seen them brand new. I'll try adjusting the surcingles this weekend. Glad you think it seems to fit elsewhere. Just wish I'd taken more photos to show it from the front & back now!

Looks fine to me, Keep it and sort the surcingles, fab rugs. Has it got a liner underneath in your photo? Once they are fitted on it will lift it a little. Good price that. Got one of the new ones in brown for my boy and paid £225 for it. Love them!!

It does look a bit on the big side, but looks to fit well around the front and that's the most important bit. :) I'd keep it, belly straps are an easy fix. :)

I do think rambo rugs are a bit of a funny fit - my horse is a big un and has a 6'9'' amigo liner and a 7' amigo turnout and the shoulder area does seem quite snug in comparison to the rest of it - which I guess makes sense with the fit of yours. Better a bit on the big side and too small - especially with a TO because he'll want it to be cosy. :)

If it was my horse, my personal opinion is that it does look a little too long in the body and has a little too much depth, especially at the back. I would send it back and opt for a smaller size but please bear in mind that this is just my opinion :)

Alternatively, if you are happy with it's fit, then simply look into modifying the length of surcingles :)

My Mare looks about the same in rambos. I always prefere to go a bit big than a bit small, rather a bit roomy than tight and rubbing.
I contacted horsewear about the strange long surcingles and the offered to replace mine with free smaller ones, if yours is this year's model (with the removable surcingles) why dont you try asking them too.
its strange... I bought 4 other rambos and the duo was the only one with long surcingles, maybe they make them longer to give the liners extra room.

Thanks Izzwizz - No - the liner is not underneath in this photo. The liner fits perfectly by the way!

Thanks Starbucks - I do agree that they tend to be smaller in the neck, but more generous around the body. I am concerned that if I get the 6ft, the neck will be too tight, and that would probably worry me more. I think if I can sort out the surcingles, it won't swamp him quite as much! He does look like a bit of a midget pony in it at the moment! :D

A temp solution to surcingles is to tie them in a knot, worked well on my pony untilw e could go and get them shortened :)

I can't explain this tieing very well- don't tie them together but tie the individual surcingle in a basic knot to shorten it please tell me if I'm making sense :p

Thanks so much for all your replies. Mum has ordered the 6ft 6 & not had a chance to try it on her horse yet. I think if it comes up the same a bit long), she can have mine & I might get him a Rambo Supreme instead!!!

I think it's a fab rug, but the length of time I have spent looking at it, photographing it, posting on here about it, and emailing my Mum about it, makes me think that perhaps I'm not entirely sure!!! And whilst it was a great price, it's still a lot of money for something I'm not quite sure about!

Thanks again!! :D:D:D

You are making perfect sense!!! :D

Thanks for the suggestion. Might be worth getting in touch with them. I'm still undecided!!!

We have the same rug on one of the horses at work, I always think it looks big on him in the same way yours does. The must just come up big! He rubs easily and the extra room is brilliant for him!

TBH it looks too big to me, it's too long and too deep - the shoulders do seem to fit well though. I'd send it back and get a 6ft 3 Amigo if that fitted him well. Different makes do fit differently.
I certainly wouldn't leave the surcingles dangling loose, that's a serious accident waiting to happen. If a horse lifts its leg to scratch/ kick an irritation away from its belly it can easily get a foot caught in a loose surcingle and not so easily get it out.

I think I agree Pearlsasinger. If I were to keep it, I would contact Horseware about sending the shorter surcingles as suggested by a prior poster, but I do think it swamps him somewhat regardless. Hoping it fits Mum's horse really to save sending it back.

I think the detachable surcingles must be to combat to the possibility of a leg getting caught, but I'd rather not let him get to that stage really. Glad you agree that it fits round the neck though - so I'm not going completely mad!!
