im going to try my hand at showing this year and i was wondering whether this was the correct turnout for veterans?

My boy's kwpn and he usually does BSJ.

Him:
plaited (mane and tail - he wont let me pull it)
hunter bridle (black)
gp saddle (black)

Me:
tweed jacket
yellow shirt with red tie
cream/beige breeches
black boots
navy velvet hat

does it matter if i choose to ride in a snaffle or is a pelham with double reins more correct? i usually use roundings with a pelham and only for jumping.

also, what colour numnah should i use? i usually see brown with brown tack so should i go with black under my black tack? my girth is black - should i change it to brown as he's a chestnut?

im not wanting to spend loads of money changing stuff as it will be our first, and possibly only, attempt (unless i can persuade him that WH is better than SJ :p)

thanks :D

Sounds ok, but I would suggest that you only use a double briddle if he goes correctly in it. Better a nice show in a snaffle than a poor show in a double.
With black tack use a black numnah & personally I wouldn't worry abput the colour of the girth.

thanks guys :D

Not wanting to totally embarrass ourselves even if it is only unaffiliated.
At the last showing show I went to everyone was turned-out to within a inch of their lives although there was a big black cob with pink glitter on its bum

"Technically havana tack is more correct"

I know, but im not really in a position to buy new tack for one class :D
Im not sure if showing is going to be for us tbh because Jerry's a little "special" :p

Are there restrictions on age for WH? Was thinking I would quite like to try it as he's a jumper and seems to enjoy himself.

decisions..

brown tack is technically correct for hunters and WH. you will get away with black tack at local/unaffiliated level, tho would still go with a brown numnah and canary breeches, and spurs. and tweed. if he is very good and want to go county level the investment in brown tack would be beneficial. either a snaffle (for novice classes) or a snaffle or a double for open classes. a pelham(either normal or rugby is neither one or the other). make sure the horse is beautifully schooled on the flat, jumps well and gives the judge a good ride and you will be fine.

Thanks for all the info. It will all be unaffiliated for the time being - Think i may give my poor old dad a heart attack if i tell him that i need to buy new tack because black isn't technically correct :p

He jumps well up to 1.20, rounds beautifully over the jumps and is very careful. I think the only issue could be on the flat as he finds it quite difficult to maintain an outline on the left rein but im sure, with a bit of work, that he'll be fine (I've been lunging in side reins to try to make him engage and work properly using his bum as he's coming back from a back injury).

He's used to other people riding him so that part shouldn't be an issue either. He's had pretty much all the girls on my yard on him and he's always behaved impeccably - shame he's such a little monster when i ride :D

Am I ok to wear spurs in the veteran class? I read somewhere that they weren't allowed.

any other class suggestions would be much appreciated (didn't have showing in Dubai so I have no clue what classes he could do other than veterans)

this is the beastie (photo is 5 years old )
