Since when did it become acceptable to enquire about a horse by text?
Have now had 5 different people send about 6 texts each with daft questions.
You think they get the message after I dont reply to anything but the first one?
Not a chance.

I hate communicating by txt- and enquiring about a horse by txt is ridiculous!
I work for one woman whom I do txt because once you get her on the phone she talks for hours about absolute c**p and also she doesn't know how to txt back- so I win wahahaha!

I had a text once from a random person saying they desperately needed a pair of second hand Hunter wellies, did I have any because they would give me £40 for them..?!?!?!

I replied asking who on earth they were and why the hell did they want to buy my wellies- they replied to say they got my number from my horsemart ad and I was in their area?!

Got loads of texts about the horse too, I ignored them.

I would never communicate by text when responding to a horse advert just because i'd have way too many questions and also would want to listen to the sellers/buyers voice to judge how well they respond to questions etc

However i do text a lot to trainers etc because im not very confident on the phone so find text a lot easier for me!

Bar my farrier as he never answers his phone because hes working on horses! I don't text mainly because I'm really slow...Can't for the life of my understand the kids on yards who can text and muck out at the same time.. Without even looking at the screen! If I was interested in some thing I feel like the whole world must really want it too and therefore for going to snach it from me so I call as quickly as possible! Speaking give you a idea of the type person whether buyer or seller.

HOW RANDOM IS THAT!

I know! People at work thought it was hilarious so I was egged on to send a few texts back and forth. Apparently new ones were no good as they needed to look authentic for some college drama thing?

10/10 for effort though... she must really have wanted some used hunter wellies

I got the same one!!

Very odd people.

oooooh and you are the other end of the country. Must have been some kind of scam then, perhaps they would get your bank details to pay money or something?

Wierdos.

I text my farrier but he prefers that and apparently find my texts hilarious..!

Wouldn't text about a horse for sale though I did text someone about a stallion but just to find out his height cos it wasn't on the ad and seemed a waste of their time phoning just for that.

ye when i advertised my horse last year i recieved some text messages asking about him.. ignored them because.
i would want to speak to them in person and if they couldnt be bothered to phone then they werent that interested were they!! time wasters. I found a fab home for him..

HOW Frustrating!!! When we advertise I always get at least onenumpty text me - usually with a ridiculous question like "Can you tell me a bit about your horse?" Yes, if you bloody well ring me! How stupid to expect someone to text about their horse!

I ignored them all as likejubbily says I figured they couldn't be that interested or they'd ring!

I had that text too last year! Just said I wasnt even selling wellies!

I have received a lot of texts enquiring about a mare I sold before xmas, still get the ocasional one, most abrupt was 'what is lowest you will take for it'. lovely eh! never reply to them!

This is only a thought, but like someone else said in this thread,Some people are very nervous and Un-confident speaking on the phone and may feel a good way round it is to text someone.

I do agree that its probably not the best way to go about making enquiries into purchasing a horse, and as for the question about Wellies....WELL,LOL!

Maybe instead of ignoring the text's you could send one back inviting them to call you (this may make them feel better),or if you get a feeling they maybe genuine why not call them up yourself

The first text is always 'is your horse still for sale', which I think is ok.
I generally reply 'yes he is still available, you can call me on this number at any time to discuss, or the house number at...(whenever im going to be in)'.
Last night I had a text saying:
'I know where this horse is, I recognise the school in the photos. What is he like at shows.' (its not my school!)
The advert states 'recently retired ex racehorse'.
Do people not have brains?
