Is this thrush??

Hi my horse has an abscess in his hind hoof caused by nail being put in too tightly. I am wet poulticing at the moment to draw it out but tonight when I took the poltice off the imprint of the frog outline was black and gungey in the dressing, and along the sides of the frog was black goo.

This was not the case the night before- has the wet poultice given him thrush?! Never had it before!

Are you sure the black gunge isnt the abscess draining? Did it smell bad?

Possibly, I'm concerned as it was perfectly formed in the shape of the frog outline in the poultice, so looks as if it's seemed out the sides of the frog? It smelt bad but not too pungent! How bad does thrush smell in comparison to an abscess??

It sounds as if the abscess is draining to me. A draining abscess can smell dreadful, ime
