Is this true? Some horses naturally have slower paces?

I have a big 16.2hh cob x tb 5 year old mare. She is very laid back and seems to have by nature a slow walk / trot / canter. She tracks up in both walk and trot but doesn't walk out quickly with it.

I was told that some horses naturlly have a slower walk? True or nonsense?

My mare is a little lazy but moves off the leg nicely when asked. I have owned her since she was 4 and broke her in with help from an experianced friend. She has always been a very laid back girl.

Yes, I believe it to be true. One of mine had a poor walk, we worked hard at it but it was never a brilliant walk. His gallop was also not that fast (he was determined but lacked top end). Other horse had a real travelling walk with substantial over track and a very fast gallop.

I have an arab and a paso, I usually ride with Quarter Horses, they might go like **** off a shovel from a standing start, but they are naturally placid and prefer life at a slower pace. Lola and Ella do not, they do everything at speed, I hate riding Lola with slower horses, I spend all my time jogging because I am holding her back, 30' infront or going around in circles. I don't even bother riding the paso in company.

So, yes, some horses are naturally faster paced than others, some are of course just darn lazy, and some are lazy because they are allowed to be or their riders prefer them that way.
