Is weeing a lot automatically a bad sign?

e.g. cushings - in an older pony?
Suddenly noticing our 20+ welshie weeing an inordinate amount, but not meaning to be funny, we all get weaker in the bladder as we get older, don't we?

20 ish isn't that old though. Do you mean an extra large quantity of wee or just weeing the same amount but in smaller bursts and more often? More wee than normal probably isn't anything to worry about unless you have also seen dramatic other symptoms like staggering and collapse. But if ponio is weeing smaller amounts but much more frequently, it could be a bladder or urinary tract infection. Is ponio a mare or a gelding? Weather has been very warm recently...might just have drunk more. Or change to more juicy grass = more water being taken in. But if ponio has a raised temperature or is straining to wee or there is blood in the wee I'd get the vet out pronto and try to catch a sample in a jug or bucket in the meantime!

More frequent, not larger amounts, at a glance, it's clear healthy wee. Yes, of course the grass is up, so it might be that I suppose - he's not straining, he looks well (in fact he's full of beans!) Gelding. Will keep an eye on him.

Is your pony drinking more? When horses are urinating excessively for a medical reason then this will invariably drive them to drink more. Normal water consumption is 15-30 ml/kg/day. At this stage I would measure your pony's water intake to see whether he is drinking more than normal.

Increased urination can be a symptom of many conditions, and is worthy of investigation even if it is not accompanied by 'staggering and collapse'. In fact if my horses were stagering and collapsing noting his urine output would be the last thing on my mind!
