Is World Horse Welfare any good?

OH and I are just revamping our wills and intend to leave a large sum to a horse charity but NOT the RSPCA who are far to political and frankly useless. Does anyone have any experience of World Horse Welfare and their work?
 
I think they are, for one they are horse specialists so when they go out to a case they actually know the first thing about horses, and they do a lot of rescues nationwide. They also work with others better than the Arsepca, eg up here they rounded up a massive load of out of control breeding horses (like a hundred) and got a local charity that uses western riding with ex servicement injured in action involved, their staff used their quarter horses to help round up the horses without the sort of incompetent farce that you see too often with the 'other' charity.

My only slight niggle is our local one leaves rugs on the horses too long once the weather gets quite hot and sweaty, but apart from that, they are a decent outfit.
 
Iv only had 1 dealing with the WHW and I was a bit taken back by their response. A 2 week old foal had collapsed in the field with the mare being very skinny, after talking to the owners they wouldn't call a vet or buy replacement milk as it was to expensive. So I reported to the RSPCA but they weren't interested so I rung the bhs and WHW and nobody could send out a field officer until the end of June!! The foal would be long dead by than. I'm sure they all do good work but felt I was let down by all of them and more so the foal.
 
I've had a good experience when reporting to them, horse turned out in an area with ragwort, skip, rubbish etc. We contacted them as concerned about the horse's safetly although in good weight etc they said as not an emergency they would get someone out next time there was someone in the area but it might be several weeks. They said they'd call and let us know what happened (everything was annoymous as far as the horse owners were concerned). 2 days later we noticed that the horse had been moved into the field next door and everything was cleaned up. They called and let us know they'd had a word and it was simply lack of education. Since then the horse has been better cared for and seems to have been done with tact etc.
 
I've had a good experience with them and when I lost my girl last year, I cleaned her rugs, grooming kit, feed bowls, everything and drove it over to WHW. I have left money to them in my will, together with Dog's Trust and Battersea Cat & Dogs Home.
 
I had a pony from them for 9 years and they did turn up unannounced every 6 months to check him which really pleased me. The person who did this was employed to just check their horses, previously a Field Officer was supposed to do it but realistically their time was taken up with welfare cases.

Also they were good when I reported a case of neglect.
 
Yes, they are good. They work on cases with the RSPCA who have a prosecutions department for the worse abuse cases they deal with.

My horse was a dual agency rescue. The WHW found him and with the help from resources of the RSPCA, his owner was prosecuted and imprisoned.
 
Another with very positive views of the WHW. The field officer often pops in for a chat when he is in the area and he is both practical and knowledgeable. Ex-mounted police. One of the few charities I have any time for.

The SSPCA (I'm in Scotland) is a lot better than the RSPCA but there is still the same old bovine excrement, just not quite so much of it!

Blue Cross is another good one.
