So poppy is going in to be spayed tomorrow, and the vet mentioned ages ago that some people have them microchipped at the same time - kill 2 birds with 1 stone

Im thinking of ringing the vets to ask them to do this tomorrow for her.
Just curious who has their dog microchipped and who doesnt?
I would imagine most people have?

Mine is, and it has been very helpful on many occasions as he is a hound and tends to bog off (as well as losing his tags at every opportunity).

I think I will ring them now and say to do it tomorrow.
Theres no harm in doing it is there - plus she is a monkey and would happily run off with anyone who she likes

Definately recommend it.

I had my boxer done as a pup as we were warned by his breeder he may have picked up the wandering gene from his mother (she decided to have a day out, cleared the 6 ft fence wandered round the outskirts of preston, M65 and then made her way home

)

thankfully he is too much of a mummy's boy to wander to far.

It takes all of two seconds and really puts your mind at rest.

Only one of my dogs hasever made a bid for freedom. Tina managed to open the gate (it has since been remade so won't happen again) and walked from the house, up the street to the bar where we drink

It's only about 10minutes away and she called into my aunts shop on her way to the bar! M was sitting at the bar and in Tina dandered, looknig very pleased with herself.

She knows the bar as she used to be allowed in it before it was refurbished

He was done when he had his first Vaccine (although he was 5 months by then and had ALOT of extra skin

), I wouldn't have a dog and not have it chipped. Especially since I plan to work my dog and he won't wear a collar then.

We had ours done however the chip moved and finished up down his right leg!!! So pretty pointless as when scanned in the right place, it didn't show up! We notified all vets in the area and had a tag engraved with where to scan but since most tags would be removed, a pointless exercise, however, I would do it again if I had another and it is rare that they move to that extent!

Mine are all tattooed not microchipped. Have been having them done for years. It is more visible, like freeze marking, which I prefer, also have had experience of a stray I found being scanned by dog warden and no chip showing, and yet turned out the dog had been microchipped

Luckily had a collar and tag on as well so we were able to find its owner.

My beagle is chipped, mainly because he works in advertising so threat of stealing

My border terrier isnt, mainly because no one would want him

Leah's chipped, but Poppy isn't. Which is really the wrong way round, since Leah would never be brave enough to go out of my sight whereas Poppy is a little bugger for running off and, as a purebred, is at more risk of getting stolen.

Mum kept saying she didn't have enough money to get it done this month... then next month... then next month... and in the end I gave up nagging her.

Yep. Stella's breeder chips all her pups as a matter of course, so we just switched the contact details to ours after we brought her home.

Yes mine are all chipped. My mum did a training course to be a microchipper (i was going to do it but i was too squeamish lol) so we also chip our puppies before they go to their new homes too

Henry is, he came that way from the resuce centre but would have had him chipped if not.

If it's anything like chipping horses I don't think it can hurt much, having seen a load of two year old TBs being chipped with a minimum of fuss not so long ago

Had Blue microchipped the day after we got him when he was 4 mths old (already named)
His tag also says 'I'm microchiped and neutered' as an extra deterant.
He's a pedigree Blue Merle BC so was worried someone would take a liking to him.

He did not even notice when it was done!

All my adult dogs are done (9), and pup will e done with her 2nd vac, one JRT has used the tag when she went rabbiting and some one picked her uo and we got her back from kennels along with kennel cough!

Both mine are. Crazy not to I think !

I had mine done when they were neutered too - I had to as my mini JR tries to eat the vet if he comes anywhere near him!
