Ned's passport came back today :D yay! Officially Ned's Mum!

However, having spoken to a lot of my friends, they haven't bothered to change the owners name :O

What about you?

The 3 that i passported are but the one i bought with a passport isn't. I really should send it off as i have owned him for a couple of years now.

yes, yes, no and no! The last two buys I still havnt got round to changing yet but one weve not even had a week yet and the other ive had 5mnths and cant decide weather to keep or sell (they were all accidental pity
buys! ;) ) its just one of them things 'ill do tomorow' and of coarse tomorow never comes!

Not in any of the three of mine, one on loan from charity so he's still in their name. The oldie who's out on loan - his is in the name of 2 owners ago as the last owner never changed it either!

Isn't it £20 or so to change? not sure what value I get for my £20?

It's annoying because I have no idea how many owners Ned has had. YO didn't put him in her name and it seems the owners before her didn't either. I've only got very vague idea of who bred him, but can't get in contact :(

Also, can anyone tell me what MC means? On his passport it says "NED MC"

I already had my lot when passports became compulsory, so yes my name is on them but the address is wrong. Ooops.

I'm officially in all but one of my horses passports. My latest horse - there's only one owner written in it (when I know he's had several homes) because they'd never bothered. I thought "oh how terrible, you have to register as the owner officially" but then I found out it cost about £40/£50 to do it with the Dutch WB lot!! No thanks! So yeah, I just wrote my name in it myself and left it at that!

only in one :o

one I never bothered - wrote my name in but never sent it off.
one isn't passported
and the last one needs a letter from previous owner to change over and I can't get hold of them, but my name's written in it.

I guess I'm just old fashioned and all horses I've bought have been pre passports so I just worried about what they are like now rather than what they were like.
I only have geldings so breeding history isn't relevant.

If I found out something bad about one of their pasts - would I treat them any differently - I hope not

Not one is!
Although I'd probably write my name in if I was to ever sell them, just to have some traceability :)

Nope never sent mine off, only 1 is in my name which I passported myself. If I sell I write my phone number in passport as a port of call for any owner in years to come and has proved useful when I received a call one day from a lady.

I just want to know why he has the scars (mentally and physically) that he has. Someone down the line must have treated him badly and from the pictures that were in his passport, I don't think it was his breeders. That, and I'm simply interested in the history of animals, whether they are mine or not :)

I thought I'd I read somewhere, that it's an offence under some act or another not too update the Passport when the ownership of a horse changes, but I stand to be corrected on this:)

It is. But so is the fact I sometimes do 33mph in a 30mph zone :o:D

I also think I read (and also stand to be corrected) that you shouldn't write in the passport yourself?

Mine was £25 to change, but I don't think I'd bother if it was £40!

Yes all three of mine are in my name and all 3 have been signed in the back by me to ensure they don't enter the food chain whilst in my ownership. They are countersigned by my vet too of course.

The passport relates to the horse not the owner. It is supposed to be a record of treatment and medication given to the horse (that in itself is a laugh)
It is irrelevant who owns said horse.
It is not, (as stated in the passport) a document of ownership.
If your horse is registered with a breed society, that document is proof of ownership and you should register change of ownership with them. If not, then there is no proof of ownership unless you have a receipt from previous owner.
So many people think the passport is relative to who owns the horse, it is quite simply designed to be a record of treatment and drugs administered to that horse. Sadly until recently I have never had a vet ask to see it other than for annual vaccinations. The whole system is a joke.
