I went to a lesson yesterday, it has been my second lessons since I part loaned for about 7 month. When I decided to share I went from a 14.1hh 'plodalong' RS pony to a 16.1hh naughty id x tb

. Okay wasnt the best idea but I learnt loads then I went to a 15.3hh cob x tb. I just prefer the feel of horses around that height. Its not too big but not too small. Anyway on my lesson they had messed up slightly and put me on a smaller horse than my RI wanted. So I was put back on a 14.2hh welsh and I just felt like I was such a bad rider. The ponio wouldnt get in an outline and she had me doing trot and canter in 20m etc.. when normally Im doing half pass and shoulder in etc. I found it really hard on a pony and I dont know why. I know this is a bit of a whinge but I just dont get it?

Sorry I did put it wrong and I sound kinda stupid now, but this pony was schooled because his owner does dressage with him all the time and the ones I had on part loan had never done it in their lives.
This post is a bit of a whinge, Im stuck inside and in a bit of a bad mood because its menna snow AGAIN tonight and tomorrow.

My instructor nearly always starts off whoever she is teaching with walk/halt, normally just on the track. She likes to get everything working well between horse and rider with super-basic things first. (She does do other things later so horse doesn't get bored!)

Don't feel too bad about not riding a perfect deressage test type of thing on a pony (or horse) the first time you meet it. It will take a certain amount of time for you to get to know each other. I'd *love* to trot and canter perfect 20m circles on share horsey who I've had since April '09... doesn't happen most times though!

Having said that if you're really not comfortable on a certain size/shape it might never feel that good, even if the *only* thing is that you don't think it is going to.

Make a snow pony, take pictures for the Soapbox/Common room! There are some good things about this weather!

Im the opposite i cant ride horses!!! At the end of the day you're still learning arent you I'm sure you achieved as much in that lesson as you did in one of your others - theres no point poncing about doing half pass and shoulder in all day on an easy horse, surely you'll achieve more if you manage to get a good tune out of a pony you find difficult??!! And ponies can do dressage, mine's only 14.2 and he's fab but my sharer struggles to get him to even go in an outline. They are perhaps a little more stubborn
