Just turned on the tv and the racing is on, a horse just broke its leg and was destroyed, turned over so don't know where the racing is from but isn't the ground frozen underneath and dangerous?
It is here

It's at Cheltenham. We didn't hunt today because the ground is too wet, not had a frost for 2 days. Saw Mac's Joy break his leg though, just one of those things I think.

wasnt sure what had happened to the horse! all the commenators said was that the horse had a terrible accident

racing is at cheltnam i think... but the ground here is very soft at the mo... maybe theground thawed up?

Grounds frozen here...went onto moors this morning, and had a look at where we usually gallop, and its frozen solid, and theres sheets of ice where the lieing water was, so not moors for a while

We're on minus 2 and I can hardly feel my feet having been out riding for the last two hours. Ground is like concrete, and very icy too.

Just having a 'winter warmer' before heading out to do evening stables. Roll on spring time....!

They put covers over a lot of the ground to stop the frost getting in. They check very carefully and wouldn't have run if there was any frost in the ground.

Going was good at Cheltenham. Doncaster was called off this morning so they checked very carefully. Cheltenham is a very stiff course but think it had nothing to do with the ground.

The sad accident to Mac's Joy today happened on the flat but Cheltenham do take the greatest possible care; if the ground had not been safe, racing would have been cancelled, make no mistake about that. As someone else said, they now protect most of the course, not just by the fences, by covering it if frost/snow is forecast and this had been done after the racing from yesterday.

Rock solid on our hack in places only managed a bit of trot though the woods - where the ground was softer.
