My horse has every winter off and every time I bring her back into work for the first month or so she gets very excited, coils up and snatches her head down, sometimes pulling the reins out of my hands! Can anyone recommend something to help me out a bit until she gets over this?! She used to buck or bronc so guess this is an improvement but it’s really frustrating for the first month of riding again. She always stops once she has settled back into work so I know it’s not a physical issue as such.

One of mine takes about a month to settle after time off I do lunge some days which I think does help a bit to take the edge off him, failing that I just try and sit it out and it normally doesn't go on for long thankfully ?

Mine snatches jogs and generally chucks himself about.

How about trying balanced support reins. We used them on my son's horse who would snatch the reins when tired. He v quickly stopped when he realised he couldn't achieve anything.
